.223 90Gr Powder options?

I am slowly trying to set up for shooting long range with a .223 with a 1 in 7 twist 30" barrel. I am going to be using 90gr VLD more than likely. I am wondering what everyone suggest for powder. I see 2000mr suggested but it seems to be awful hard to find around here. What is everyone's opinion on Varget or CFE 223? I have also read somwhere that CFE 223 is almost identical to 2000mr. Is there anywhere o find specs on powders?

Thanks

Those powder suggestions that you suggested, will not work. They were developed with the Sierra 90 gr bullet, which has a max speed reconmendation of 2650 fps. Which is ok for work at 600 yards, it is not good enough for 1000 yards.

Either the JLK or Berger 90VLD should be used. I use the Berger 90vld. Varget will work, so will RL15 which I used in my rifle during most of this season with very good success. As for 2000MR, I have tested it and it did give me more velocity over the RL15 load that I am currently using. 150 fps more to speak of really. My bbl is starting to get a lil old now, it has 1900 rounds on it. I only bought 2200 for the bbl, which is the way I usually do it. I figure out about what the expected bbl life will be and then buy that many bullets, after they are used up, I will have the bbl taken off and replaced.

As for CFE223, from what I first heard, that it was about the same speed of RL15, but later heard that current lots were a lil faster burning Varget.

So my reconmendation is use either Varget, RL15 or 2000MR.

Laure Holland of target shooter mag did a very extensive write up on this as he built a 1k mouse gun. The articals are in target shooter mag you can go to the mag and get into the archives to read I think its in oct2010 to jan2011 It covered a few months and very detailed I think but not 100% sure he ended up with 25gr?? of realoader15 and used 90gr burger vld Lapua brass and heavy primers thin ones punctured and they were running them at 2850 fps any faster the pressure signs showed up and he used a savage target action with that load he tied the UK record for the smallest at 1k check it out it should help answer allot of questions. good luck

Froggy has got a good grip on the 90 gr combination, but I can tell you that I have enjoyed some great success at 1000 yds with a service rifle with 24.2 gr of RL-15 in a LC primed case.
