223, 77gr. Go to load

I’ve a 1/7 twist 223 short barrel bolt gun looking at loading some 77 gr. Or 80gr. SMK For 200 yard fun play.I have several pounds of H335 that Im Not using right now. Anybody shot this combo/ share your favorite load
thanks

Accurate 2230 or Ramshot TAC are going to be the most available and affordable powder for high velocity in that gun. I don’t know what short barrel means to you but it’s 16 inches to me. My AR’s are 16, 18 and 20. I shoot 62 grain soft points for hogs or anything heavier and those are my AR powders.

This is for my RRA NM A4, 20" stainless barrel:

SIE 77 gr. SMK
LC case
Rem 7.5 BR primer
Aliiant Power Pro Varmint @ 24.2 gr.

Shoots lights out @300 yds., I haven't tried 600 with it yet.

16” bolt gun

24 varget and 77smk at 2.6. Shoots in most things I have. That’s what I worked up but reference published load date resources. Start low and work up. I have used 335 but I don’t remember the load Pretty sure I used max published load. Nowadays Tac and varget are what I use. I actually get better all around performance from tac. Meters better and seems to shoot better with better velocity. Plus it’s available and cheaper. Varget gives me better sd’s most of the time.

The Highpower shooters use 75/77 grains bullets for 200,300 and some even use them for 600 yards. Varget and R15 are very popular as are a host of other appropriate burning rate powders. These "other" powders have grown since the component shortages brought on by covid and anti gunners. The V and R15 loads usually run 23.5-24.5 but need to be worked up for your barrel.

24.1 RL15 load and go. 69, 75, 77, 80..... choose your pill load and go shoot.

223 - H335 for 77 and 80 SMK data is available on the web and this main site.
The Hodgdon data is for a 24" bolt gun.

This Sierra data is for a 24" barrel.

You will find slightly different velocity depending on your situation.
If you run your development in cool weather, and then shoot in hot weather, you can expect an increase of roughly 100 fps.

Add N140 and H4895 to the list as well, same ranges +2 to work ups.

This is 5.56 NATO data I found in western powder load data manual AA2520---25.0gr. 2.255 OAL with just about any primer. I use cci450 and remington 7-1/2 interchangeably with this load. I e also used WSR and cci400. Accuracy is excellent from my 18" ar15 with average of 2730fps. No pressure signs.
