I have been using 1/9 twist on a 222rem now for couple of years mainly using 53gr Vmax and 69gr Scenar and Matckings. Accuracy has been around .3-.5 moa.
Chamber is cip so 69gr bullets goes well below the shoulder junction due to the short Cip freebore. I have been thinking to buy a custom reamer and quality match barrel to customize the new chamber with more freebore and a bit longer space for the necks to extend to avoid trimming.
Since the necks on a 222rem are so long longer freebore would give me much more seating depth nodes to use. COAL in these dummy round is around 2.230 and I would still have plenty of bearing surface left in the case neck. Has anybody done anything similar? Thank you.
