222 twist and barrel question

One of my newest toys is a CZ527 in 222....right now i'm shooting:
H4198 or IMR4198 - 20.5gr of either
Hornady 50gr z-max (v-max)
Lapua brass
2.130"
205m, CCI400, or Tula 223

I am going to be rebarreling the rifle this year (and restocking it) and am thinking about twist to go with and what bullets to shoot. I like the idea of the 53gr vmax...as they shot great in my 223ai. I don't care to shoot heavier (68gr++) out of the gun, of course....so thinking between 40-60gr.

I'm going to be going to a Pac-Nor, 3 groove Super Match barrel....unsure of what contour, twist, and length to go with. I'm thinking of just letting Pac-Nor do the chambering/re-barreling as well...considering they will chamber and true for $300.

Don't think P-N will rebarrel/chamber your CZ for $300.....
Going rate for the SS SM tube for a pre fit Savage is $465ish..thats ready to screw on...add another $125-150 to set up on your CZ action..look at their contour chart & twist rates...the 53 V max is a long bullet with BC of .290...10 twist/5G would be my suggestion..I would find the 222 boring if you're running a 223AI already...take a look at the 20-222 for your CZ...11T/3G in a 20 cal will spin the 40 V max just right.....much more interesting than the ole Duece.....

that's based on their advertised price list..not including the price of the barrel. Total is like $610 or something similar.

and I have a 204 for 20 cal stuff (CZ527 in the newer funky looking stock...WISH i had an older HS kevlar)...and, sadly, I sold the 223ai not long ago, i just have an abundance of 53gr vmax, 50gr zmax, and some 40gr vmax left over.

Is the 53gr vmax going to give me something over doing a more traditional setup like a 1:14 shooting 52/53gr match bullets? This rifle wont be shot past 250yds (MAYBE some 400yd steel duty if i carry it up to the tree farm...but that's generally reserved for 204 and ar duty)

It'll shoot a little flatter, but at 250 yards, you won't see much improvement... and at 400, it will be about 2" higher that equal weight hollow points.

so you sold the 223AI............woops......... ;D

don't tell Hornady...but the 53 V is the cats azz in a p/dog boolit

its long & sleek...I run them in a P-N 9T 223AI...

Along with a standard Savage Predator 223 9T

I sold the 223ai only after I was sullied in waiting for parts. I had talked myself out of it before the barrel arrived...and by the time it was on and the rifle was coated...i didn't even bother shooting it.

I have a Pac Nor ultra match, 3 groove, in 6xc, 7 twist, and man is it a barn burner, loves them 115 DTacs. I think a .222 from them would be a hummer!

Go with a 1:12 twist for best flexibility in the 40 to 60 gr range. 1:14 can be iffy with some bullets over 50 gr. My two cents worth.
