222 Remington ??

I just found a 40XBR in 222. Looks all factory. Wood stock, blue action, SS barrel. Barrel just marked 222 Rem.

Question - what brand brass should I look for since I think Lapua does not make this?

Any thing else I need to check? Like anything special in the chamber, neck sizes, etc.??

Jim, brass man brass,www.brassmanbrass.com)has some PMC priced very reasonably. A friend of mine checked out the brass and weight uniformity was very good and wall thickness in the necks was exceptional.

Has your barrel been replaced? Something sounds different. It may not be good or bad, but just different. Remington usually uses specific proof and QC stamps on their barrels. I have two .222's and use Winchester brass. I thoroughly prepped all 100 of them. Out of the 100 I threw two away. If Lapua made the brass to fit I would have preferred it. After the prep that includes primer pocket uniforming, inside flash hole debur, oal checked or trimmed and then chamferred, they work fine in my factory Remington rifles. I have not been too thrilled with Remington or Federal brass. The 6BR Lapua brass that I bought is beautiful in comparison. Does Norma sell this caliber brass? The two Remington rifles that I have shoot exceptionally well for a hacker target varmint shooter. I do not compete. It is common for a group to start out nearly as one hole. I find four round groups are easier to keep tight than 5, but 1/2" are common @ 100yds. I will include some case weights that I have found for comparison. If you are not setting the world on fire or competing, the Winchester brass may be just fine. Good luck, Peter.

Ref: Brass for .222. Yes, it is available from Lapua. Midway lists it as product#374-754, $47.99 per 100. I bought 200 several yrs. ago, some have been loaded 28 times, have yet to throw one away. Still have an unopened box of 100. This is extreme high quality. Uniform neck wall thickness. Used in a factory "Classic" Rem 700 and a Sako Vixen with a Hart barrel. Consistant load, for accuracy, both rifles has been 22.2 of H322, a Hodgdon recommended load), with the 50 gr. V-max, seated .020" off the lands, Fed. 205 primer. Using neck bushing die, Wilson chamber seater. Never use the inside neck expander, and loaded round run-out is never more than .003". Have never had to trim brass to length: they do not stretch. Could not be happier with the little .222.

I had no luck finding 222 Remington brass made by Lapua.

HOWEVER, if you can find it, I would like to buy 1,000 rounds.

Hello,

For general shooting, Woodchucks, PD's, etc., I use Winchester brass. If I am shooting at a local varmint match, I switched over to Norma brass since the Lapua brass was discontinued last year. RWS makes a good high quality piece of brass for the Deuce also.

Be careful! If the barrel is stamped .250, it is a tight neck chamber and you will need to neck turn your brass so that with the bullet in place the neck cannot be any greater than .248" in diameter. I had one and that was the case with that rifle.
