222 Rem AICS feeding question

I have a Tikka T3X with a custom .222 Rem barrel / chamber job. It’s mounted in a Manners PRS-TK stock with a 10 round 223 AICS polymer mag. It feeds fine with a single shot adapter but with the mag I get rounds nose diving sometimes and putting the point of the bullet into the face of the barrel just below the start of the chamber. Loaded dummy rounds are set at 2.2” and slapped against the back face of the magazine.

I’m looking for advice on how to get this working.

I’ve done some filing on the feed lips of the polymer mag to lift the next round up higher and that’s helped (it stopped them from nose diving into the mini chassis) but I figured someone with more experience might offer an informed plan of attack since a polymer mag can only be adjusted by filing away material and that’s not ideal for experimenting.

Ok I think I see what you mean - the cartridge is basically free to drop before the nose of the bullet reaches the start of the chamber - so extending the feed lips will support it longer to close that gap.

Here’s my little case-20-221AI from AICS poly mag

Bard is correct, a lengthen lip will probably help.

I wouldn’t Guarantee anything , myself…

I doubt you will get this to work 100% even with extending the feed lips.
It will very difficult to keep the bullet centered and it will probably get caught
by the flat tenon.

If it was a coned breach then you would have a better chance of making it
work.

The longer the case is retained under the feed lip the more the case will pop a wheelie (using the feed ramp in the action) into the center of the barrel.

If a 223 will work then a 222 should work. Just needs to be held down another 150 thou or so.

I bet it works.

This new design mag has the feed lips extended to help with this issue...a little pricey but may be worth it in the end. Read the item description and it details about the extended feed lips.

So, the solution IS to extend the feed lips and it works.

There is also a MDT Polymer mag that has the extended feed lips. In most cases you do have to file the tops of the feed lips down to get proper fitment, but it appears that MDT has addressed the issue that some cartridges need to stay captured longer to feed properly. The polymer mag is cheaper than the metal one I posted above.

I have four of the MDT polymer 223 mags and they work excellent
in my 223 700 but if you load 222's in the same mag in the same 223 700
action it will not feed reliably.

Also running a 224 Valkyrie out of a AICS 308 metal magazine with the Primal Rights innards. Works fine. In a 783 Remington Action.

Just went through a similar problem with a 22 Arc recently. Had a MDT metal Arc mag that wouldn’t feed well if at all. Bought a feed lip adjustment tool and within a couple of minutes the feed problems were gone. Little trial and error but once I saw what was going on it was easy to fix.

The MDT magazine with extended feed lips works great and feeds them perfectly regardless of speed. Thanks for the help.

I looked for the polymer version with extended feed lips but never did locate it. For $70 it's not too bad considering how well it's working.
