222 REM accuracy load using 40 gr bullets

This is the load that I use for 40 gr. V-Max. BUT-- One day I got some of the little 35 grainers, and I tell ya those little stubby flat based devils shoot great. I just slapped some on top of the same powder load to try them out, no ladder test no nuthin.
I love powder like BLC, H-322, H-335 -- cause I'm lazy and don't like to individual weigh. jd

I've tried H-4198 and VV N-133. Groups don't seem to care which or how much. Average of 16 five-shot groups in my database is a hair over 0.5 m.o.a. The same rifle averages in the 3s with match bullets. Using the handbook loads of N-133 produced some surprising velocities. I like 21 gr of H-4198 and the 40 V-Max for a prairie dog load.

I have often thought about trying those little 35 grainers. Have you ever killed anything with them?

I've killed a bunch of ground squirrels with them, and I think three coyotes. I would have killed a lot more, but they're ungettable from any store around here, and are frequently hard to find at the usual mail order outfits.

I ran into them one day, and got them for my Bee. They're the cats meow for that, and any short mag rifle that ya might have. It was just a fluke that I tried them in my 222, and sometimes ya just get lucky. The throat and bore of this rifle is fire cracked and horrible for three or four inches past the chamber, and it's got no business shooting groups like that. jd

H4198 and Rem 7-1/2 primer behind 40 V-max in my Sako Vixen is the most accurate rifle I own. Death ray on varmints.

I use IMR 4198 and Rem 7-1/2 primers with V-max 40 grain in my .222. Shoots accurately and is good for coyote and prairie dog.

Any one have a favorite load using 40 gr bullets. Powders I have are H322,BLC2, R7, XBR 8208, 4198, and BENCHMARK.
What have you guys found for MAX load or most accurate load using H-4198 - REM 7-1/2 - Winchester brass - and 40gr V-MAX !! THANKS

There was enough interest in H4198, that I loaded up some to try at the range yesterday. My target and chrony data are attached for your benefit. As always, work up your load as what was safe in my rifle might not be in yours. My estimated velocities are from QL.

My bartlein 24",13 tw likes H4198 the most...I usually shoot the 53 gn vmax with 20.7 gns at 3150-3160 fps with Hornady brass and Fed match primers. Its a 1/4 moa load all day long in mild conditions. Last time I tried the 40s they did best with 21.4 gns of 4198 and shot in the 3s if I rememnber correctly. Im curious to try some of those 35 gn pills now...might be a fun and speedy combo

I have shot 21.5 grains of H4198 behind the 40 v max in several 222's. All have shot this load extremely well with no pressure issues. Work up safely of course.
