222 Rem., 204 Ruger, 20 VT Powder

222 Rem., 204 Ruger, 20 VT Powder.

In order to save money, is there one powder that will reliably, accurately, and cleanly work in all 3 rounds?? And now for the big can of worms....

Which do you believe is the best round, when loaded accordingly) for coyotes and cats?

What range are you typically shooting at?

.222 - 2015, N133, H322

I try to call them in to 200 yds or closer, preferably much closer). Toward the end of the season they seem to get a bit nervous for some reason:rolleyes:

It's tough. You've got three very different case capacities, so I don't think you'll find any one powder that you'd be happy with in all three.

You can probably find a powder suitable for the 2 larger calibers, but Vartarg and fireball use faster stuff in the same range as .410 shotgun powders.

If you must have only one it would be something like 2015 or 3031.

You will have limitations on either end. Get a good powder for the Vartarg and use Varget or Benchmark in the other 2.

I just joined the forum tonight, and noticed this thread. My custom Rem 700 .222 shoots H4198 loads in the .4's all day long. It's a mild load around 3100 fps, but it shoots. I'm planning to develop my first load for my match-target .204 Ruger AR-15 with H4198 just to see how it performs, but I'm just starting the buildup of that rifle. I will also develop one with Varget b/c of it's consistency and resistance to temp fluctuations. Living in TX means lots of temp change from day to day!

h4198.....THE powder to use in the 30BR case for 100-300 yd Benchrest Score Matches....the winningest powder ...hands down.
So.....it's accurate enough to hit a horsefly 25 for 25 times at 100 yards...and clean enough that competitors are shying away from bore brushes...and yes a good choice for the cartridges you mentioned also.
And lastly, due to it's success and demand in the competitive world ....it should be with us for a long time.
