222 Mag Loads?

Remington 40X in 222 Remington Mag need loading specs. I have 40 grain BT using Varget. I need loads for the 50 grain Vmax and Blitzking using Varget and SW Precision. Also loads for the various 52 grain Sierra, Hornady and Berger also using Varget and SW Precision. Looked through 4 different reloading manuals and no help. Just shooting paper. Thanks for any help you can provide.

Remington made a lot of these back in the day and they were competitive. Mike Walker was a force for Remington. These were before the onslaught of custom actions. One that comes to mind is one that was called a .222 and 1/2. There were others.
You're in my homestate, what is your zip code. Gary
Try to stay with the 52 gr bullets, that is what was prevalent then and what they were made for. I even have 2 boxes of Remington bullets (52 gr) that my gunsmith gave me many yrs ago and I've never used

It is not really that hard. If you look at data for the 222 or 223 then go from there??? Start safe & work up. I would probably be going with H-322 or AA T32 to start but there are more options. I'm pretty sure I have 2 sets of dies for the .222 mag.

47240. 20 miles east of Columbus. BIL only uses 52 grain Sierra almost for everything.

I guess I will start with 223 info. All the manuals have loads using H335 which I do have, but haven't used. Thanks for the tip.

Years ago I had a Ruger No.1 in .22 PPC with little load data. Hodgdon Loading Manual No. 25 states in the .22 PPC loadings "for any bullet not listed other than 53 gr. (only bullet grain listed) use .222 Remington Magnum load data". This was my rule of thumb for .22 PPC loading.

I purchased a .222 Remington Magnum 40XBBR and wanted to try IMR 8208 XBR. I used the Hodgdon Web Data 22 PPC starting load of 25.5 gr. of IMR 8208 using 53 grain bullets and shot 4 groups (only three shot) at 100 yards. IMR 8208 reduced my Hodgdon Benchmark & H4198 and IMR 3031 powder loaded groups in half. The four IMR 8208 groups averaged .190 with no hint of pressure problems. It would probably shoot better with increased powder?

I was going to increase the powder loading a little bit at a time, but I haven’t shot the 40XBBR since. That was in 2011. Been busy I guess.

I’d start at 25.5 gr. of IMR 8208 with 52 or 53 grain bullets and slowly work up from there.
Or any powder you want listed under 22 PPC starting at Starting Loads.

I purchased new 40X 222mag and I got two test target and loading data with it. The two groups where in the low 2's. 26gr/IMR4895 with Berger 52gr bullet,Rem brass and 7.5primer. I sold 40x but have 722/222mag and 222mag on Rem action 26" Brux barrel and use that load in both rifles. The 722 an Brux barrel I started at 24gr/IMR-4895with Berger 52gr bullet and best load was @ 26gr.

I have in past ordered 40x 222,223,243 and the 40x 223 I order with 1/14 twist barrel and test target load was same as 222mag. I never did any work up loads on 40x's as they had test target.

I got 722 new 1968 and it been retried long time now.

I think today it's what powder you can get. If your going to use 223 data I would use start load and work up. I have good collection of manuals and you can me. Sierra new manual has good data for 222mag including IMR-8208XBR,Varget,LT-32

Oldroper, after reading your post I remembered the Sierra manual. It was stored in a different area from my other manuals. I do have h4895, 8208 and Varget. I will load some this weekend. Thanks!
