.222 for club level

Hello,

I come from a .222 family. I've been using it as a whitetail/varmint round for many years and love the low report and inherent accuracy. I understand it has held many records in the past, and just want some additional opinions on using it in 100/200 at my local club.
I shoot a lot of competition, but most of it from
My belly, and I'm swapping over. I know the 6 PPC IS KING, so you don't have to go over that, already have one in an HV egg shooting rig.

Thanks in advance.

Also, this would be a custom build in the LV config.

I think the 222 will make an excellent gun for you. My "old" Rem 700 Varmint still shoots under .5" at 100yardw with just about anything I shoot and in the .2's with it's favorite ammo.

Although I compete in short-range BR with 6 PPC's, and 30 BR's, my .222 HV is my hands-down favorite ........you just have to become a better condition reader ..........at a match you have to shoot in whatever conditions are present in the time between "commence fire" and "cease fire" commands. In a normal match that lasts several hours, most ranges will undergo a multitude of condition changes, it becomes a matter of holding off to what the flags and sighters are telling you.

The deuce is a cool little dude, I seem to have a slight addiction to picking one up when they come in the local gun store. Can't see it bing that far off the ppcs that you may come up against, mine will run the 52g bullets at 3300 fps, only 200 fps slower than my 22-100 short ppc which has won it's fair share.

Also winning with a deuce nowadays can give you a little more chest puff than other chamberings.

The old 222 records set back in it's days, were considerably larger than todays average numbers. But with todays fine bullets it can compete. Like LHSmith says you'll have to read the conditions and bide your time, but it can work! I love the triple deuce and still shoot BR with it, 52g flat base bullets are the choice for mine.

I don't believe the quote "Considerably lager" is completely correct. Did not the .222 hold the small group agg at .009 for many years? And this is a group that was never touched by the 6PPC.

Cool guys thanks for the reinforcement. I felt like it was a good decision, and I'm glad you all seem to agree.
