.221 from .223 brass??

And "no" I don't need any .221 Fireball brass. I've got loads of it.
What about a "long neck" .221 Fireball? Make the brass out of shortened .223 case. How hard / easy is it to form the .221 brass from .223?
Short chamber a .223 barrel, make your brass from .223,longer neck) brass, use a shortened .223 die to load your long neck ammo and you won't have to worry about a different shoulder angle of the .221. Anybody make .221 brass from .223?
Inquiring, bored) minds want to know. ;)

Buy a Redding 221 body die, lube the brass, and run them through the die. Then trim off the extra length. I've made 221 brass from 222 Lapua brass and trimmed off 5/16" after sizing.
The difference in case thickness from Remington to Lapua is a problem.

You will then need to anneal the new cases since now you made a new neck and shoulder from the body area of the 223 case.

I also have plenty of Rem factory brass, but prefer to make my own. I like Win 222 brass but can also use 223 cases.
My 221 FB barrel is a Pac-Nor with a 0.246"neck. I measured the length of the chamber and arrived at 1.455". Much longer than the 1.400" SAMMI spec.and the 1.390" trim length.
I use a Redding Form&Trim die with a 0.050" spacer under it to form the cases, cut off the neck, remove the spacer to complete the forming. I now have a 1.450" long necked 221. As my neck diameter is .246" I have to turn the necks anyway.
After fire forming, I end up with a 1.446" long case.
Not only do the long necks shoot better but it is easier to get those stubby 40gr bullets up to the rifling.
I also use a bump die to set the shoulder for a light crush fit and several neck bushings to set neck tension.
