.220 Swift Shooters

I just acquired a Swift, actually a Rocket, and want to ask what powders you are using? I tried 760 today with 52 grain Bergers and it shot way under .5". Not exactly a bench rest powder.
So, what works for you?

Imr 4064 I just neck size them have not annealed any of them yet but would probably be a good thing and then trim, trim, trim I think they grow in the box !!

The Rocket is basically a 220 Swift improved with a 32-degree shoulder.

I shot 52g and 55g Bergers with H414, 1/2” and smaller 5 shot groups from my Swift.
Win 760 is the same powder so that’s a good choice.

I've had 220 Swifts for a lot of years. Started out with IMR 4064 several decades ago. My current Swift never liked 4064 right from the start. So I tried WW760 and that's where it's still at using 50-55gr NBT's, 50gr and 53gr Vmax's all with well within minute of 'chuck, crow, and coyote accuracy and around 1/2" at 100yds. If it works, I'd stick with it. JME. WD

"not exactly benchrest powder" says who? Got very good results in a well worn 308, nothing else even comes close.

I’ve only had one swift and 4064 proved to be the only powder I needed.

4064 is the Classic .220 Swift powder. AA 2700 make the throat last longer.

If you have it, for precision and velocity, RL-17 works great. Once upon a time, Win. 760 was my "go to" powder. I gave up on the Win. 760 due to rapid carbon build-up in the leade. Both Accurate 2700 and RL-17 have proven excellent. Per above, H-4831SC shoots small, but relatively slow . . . depends upon what one wants. That said, all of my experience is via .220 Swift Ackley Improved version. RG

I always used H414 in my swifts, had a few of them. 55 grain bullet with WLRM primers, a load that was given to me and always worked well. Winchester 760, what you’ve already tried, is the same as H414.
