220 Swift Loads 70 and 75 VLD's

Curious if anyone has load data for heavier bullets in the 220 Swift or 220 AI Swift. Picked up a 220 Swift AI a while back and hoping to shoot 70-75 grain loads. I'm thinking H4350, H4831 SC, IMR 4350 and RL 22 would be good to start with. If anyone has a good load for this weight bullet I'd appreciate it. Thanks for the help. Rick

Rick, I used N550 in my 8 twist Swift set up for 75 A-Max, but upon borescoping this powder will cook a throat. My barrel has 167 rounds thru it. I run my Swifts on the edge and only use this rifle for chucking and barrel has never been hot. This rifle is on the backburner now and i have researched H1000 in the 8 twist and think it could work well. As of right now I am playing with new Swift on another thread here in forum. I did try H4350 during initial load work ups but no velocity to be talked about. I was getting a consistent 3659 fps using N550 with 75 A-Max but backed it down to 3551 fps where the accuracy node was.

What is the twist rate in your .220AI?

Thanks Frank, I'm shooting a 9 twist Shilen barrel. I know that it's easy to over push the Swift especially the AI. I really like the 40' shoulder for the control of the neck flow. I've seen huge pressures with one in the past. I'm looking for a powder that will push the 75 gr 3400 -3450 fps with cooking the throat. Maybe not possible but was hoping that there might be a slower burner that works with the least amount of throat erosion. I'm probably going to give the H1000 a try. Just loaded some Hybrid 100 to see what it does. In a couple test with crony pushes 3,450 to 3,500 without much effort. Thanks for the response, look forward to seeing if anyone else has experience with the Ackley 220 swift. Rick

Rick, I dug my data book out and I had tried some Hybrid 100V in mine also, but results were nothing to write home about. Also tried 39.6 grains of IMR4831 and accuracy was outstanding but velocity was an average of 3,235 with 75 A-Max. I was working off of Quickload also while undergoing load development. IMR 7828 SSC also looked good on QL but never tried it.

Howdy !

I have a wildcat .22-35 Remington, w/ case capacity > .22-250 and < .220 Swift.
Based on what I saw shooting .22-35 in a 28" SS 5-groove K & P....

I'm a big believer in "high load density ", and made my powder choices from burn rates slower than
H4350 or the new IMR4451.

AA3100 gave me best accuracy under Hornady 75 "A"-Max.
40.5gr over FED LR Magnum Rifle Match resulted in 3,500fps.
Same powder/charge/bullet and FED LR Match resulted in 3,420, but the best accuracy.

In my gun/my loads, AA3100 bested VV560, RL-19; and H4831.

RL-22 is a slower burn rate than that which would make a better " fit ", under 75s.
In the Reloader series, RL-19 would be better choice on vel achieved for amount of powder burned.

IF it were a 24" 1-14 and 55's being considered , I would have said try WW76/H414, VV160, IMR4451; H4350.
