.220 Jaybird

Dose anybody have any info/experience with this cartridge? I found it in an old Gun Digest and thought it might be interesting for Long range hunting/ 1000 yd BR/F-class. Any thoughts??????????

It is a 22-243 with a 35 degree shoulder angle originally formed by Kenny Jarret of Jarret rifles. http://www.loaddata.com/members/search_printable.cfm?metallicid=1295&MW=&PM=&PT=

Long range hunting with a quick twist and big bullets, yes.

1000yd competition, no, unless you get free barrels and do your own work.

Duey, several years ago, I lived in South Carolina close to Kenny Jarrett's facility. I had him build me 2 rifles chambered in 220 Jaybird with custom dies. They were very accurate and fast but the brass was a real PITA to make and the round was extremely hard on barrels. If I had to do it over again, I would go with a 22-250 Ack. Imp. Just my opinion. Hope this helps.

IF U REALLY WANT TO GET SERIOUS GO WITH A 22/243 ACKLEY IMPROVED 40 DEGREE..I BUILT 2 FOR MYSELF & THEY ARE FANTASTIC..BETTER THAN A 22CHEETAH..NOT SO HARD ON BBLS..BBLS. ARE CHEEP,FOR ALL U GET FROM THIS ROUND..1/8 TWIST FOR 75& 80 GR.& I BUILT A 1/14 FOR 45 TO 55 GR..U WANT SPEED 55GR. RELOADER19 45 GR NOS.B.T. 4400+..DON'T USE MY LOADS THEY MAY NOT BE SAFE IN ANOTHER BBL...RED MIST MAKES WOODCHUCKS DISAPEAR...I'M NOT RESPONSIBLE IF U TRY THIS LOAD, AS IT IS SAFE IN MY BBL....BUT.... MIGHT NOT BE IN ANOTHER..
