22 TCM

Hey guys,
On another thread I had started someone mentioned the 22 TCM as a possible candidate for my idea. The round suits my idea wonderfully and now I’m stuck with many questions.
Has anyone ever handled the Rock River bolt gun or built a TCM off of something else? If the RR Action is worth a darn I was thinking buy one of them and build off of it. If thats a possibility how is the RR engineered (barrel nut, recoil lug)?
Could you reload the 22 TCM brass with better bullets and throat the barrel or an aftermarket barrel for them? I don’t see why you couldn’t but feeding out of that tiny looking magazine may be an issue. I am not against a single shot here but if I could make it feed I’d do a repeater. I usually find that my ideas require much more work than I plan...

So who has one of these and can share some info?

The absolute worst looking inside and worst shooting barrel ive ever seen in person by far was a RR 22tcm rifle. My friend put a post on here way back when they came out ill try to find it. He sent it back and they rebarreled it but i dont know how that went.

I did a search for 22 TCM and didn’t come up with anything. I sorta figured the stock rock river rifle needed some work.

My thought was pull that barrel off and Thread something like a Pac Nor on it. If you could find a smith willing to do the work on such a strange creature lol.

I have one of their 1911's in 22TCM. The mags will not take anything longer than factory ammo- I bought a bunch that was loaded a little too long and wouldnt feed. The 1911 is a great shooting & fun gun. I looked at the rifles and had to pass they are pretty crude. Another option is a T/C Contender or Encore, Match Grade machine chambers the 22TCM in both.

I thought about doing one too, then that idea morphed into 20 TCM. I chickened out and went the easy way instead.

The wildcat I have is based off 221 fireball, a longer case than TCM. In the benchrest bolt rifle I have to insert the cartridge way into the chamber using my pinky otherwise the case stops on the chamber mouth which is a PITA. So IMO I'd rather use a TC Contender, or some type of falling block instead if going single shot, or bolt gun with a coned bolt/barrel.

That RR bolt gun seems cheaply made and reviews aren't very positive, I personally wouldn't put more money into it. Your gunsmith would love charging you five times what the rifle is worth to get everything running right.

Buy a CZ527 and load a 221FB down, easy peasy.

Mike will probably see this thread and comment, I think he's doing a 22TCM and a 20TCM.

Steve pretty much covered it. It IS a PITA chambering the short cases. Like he said, you have to get the short round started into the chamber.
"use a TC Contender, or some type of falling block". You're still going to have fun playing with it BUT it's the fun part that gets you.:D
I've got the 20 caliber version of the TCM. I've run into the "chamber loading" thing so I'll see in time how it works out. Don't want to give up too soon.;)
