.22 Target Loads, Looking for something better than typical retail.

I just built a 10/22 and looking for some good target loads that are not off the map as far as expense goes. Any ideas?

Wolf ammo (made by SK ) and then obviously SK are two "medium" priced brands that shoot well in all my 22's . The std . and sub velocity rounds tend to do better than the higher velocities . Always worth a try .

I shoot in the NRA sporter rifle league and the most used ammo is the Wolf target Match at 1050fps. They're about $5.00 per 50. I prefer the RWS target rifle sport line in the black and blaze orange box. It's velocity is 1080fps and about $8.00 per 50. For our 200 yard bench rest matches the Eley Tenex is king and cost $20.00 per 50 :o.

I shoot the standard velocity cci and cci blazer actually shoots real well out of my 10-22 comp gun as does green tag at 50 ft practice,1 hole groups.

Unfortunately, you are probably going to have to wade through a few boxes of ammo to find the magic load.

I have two tricked out 10-22s and they each have their favorite ammo. Also have two 22 revolvers and they each like something different. And to top it off, I have a Mark I and Mark II that like even different loads.

Six different 22s and they each prefer a different load!

My old 1906 Winchester pump gallery gun shoots all of them about the same but it's not a competition gun :)

As you can tell, I like 22s.

All I can say is when you find what it likes BUY ALL you can afford. ;) :o :o. Eley Polar Biathalon 1084fps works in mine. Also with some Match (sub sonic) ammo you may have issues with cycling so be aware of that.

Just ran several types of moderately priced ammo through my modified 10/22 and a couple bolt actions (CZ and Rem) -- Wolf Match target was most accurate in all, with CCI subsonic (subsonic 22 LR HP) being a close second in a couple. The CCI subsonics functioned OK in both the 10/22 and an older MK I pistol, though they tend to be tight to chamber (there is a related discussion at rimfirecentral.com).
