.22 standard velocity or higher?

I saw CCI mini mags at WM yesterday for $7.** per 100. They had 9 boxes. I was tempted but I like standard velocity .22 ammo. My Rugers are sighted in for it and I can use it for bullseye and silhouette matches (although I haven't gone in awhile) so I passed.

I do have some HV also but I figure get while the getting is good and you can never have too much .22 so if its there I'll get some but rather have standard. Anyhoo .22 is out there at regular prices just have to look or get lucky.

Always nice to have some HV ammo for those semiauto's that don't function well on subsonic. I've actually seen some competitors do well with high velocity ammo in PRS style 22 RF comps. Never argue with your firearm that likes HV ammo.

I've tested SV and HV ammo in several rifles at different distances.
At 50yds the HV isn't all that great but as you stretch it out, most perform very well for me.
In fact, the new SK long range was 1135-1150fps out of my 20in bbls. It also performed much better at distances greater than 100yds than SV ammo did.
So the transonic stage of the bullets flight didn't seem to affect the groups.

So bottom line, just see how your rifle likes it, worth a shot, right?

From what ive read the hv is less accurate .
Yes, it generally is less accurate. Why? There are many different varieties of standard velocity .22LR ammo that are match grade. There is no high velocity equivalent. As a result, HV ammo will usually have a wider ES and that causes more problems in vertical dispersion, especially as distance increases.

In addition to being available in match quality varieities, standard velocity has an important advantage over high velocity ammo. Standard velocity ammo drifts less in the wind than high velocity ammo. In other words, the faster the bullet, the more the wind pushes it.

Going to have to start visiting WM again. They supplied myself and my son with Federal HP during the last shortage. Walmart won't gouge. I would buy CCI MM for 7$/100
