22 Sav HP to 219 DW?

A question for the oldtimer reloading gurus: Can 22 Savage HP cases be safely re-formed to 219 Donaldson Wasp? I recently was given a bunch of older components including several boxes of HP brass, most once-fired. Thank you in advance!

Yes it can, but it will cost you unless you already have the form and trim dies.

^^^ What Dog said...

Midway has the dies for $100.

I have been forming 219 cases for several years. Mostly, I use 30-30 cases. My main concern was whether the 22HP cases would be strong enough after being blown out.

Yup... plenty strong enough.

The 22HP is another one of those cartridge cases that is only occasionally produced and usually brings a high price when it is available. (Trust me I know). Since you are already forming your Donaldson brass from much easier to find 30-30 brass, you may want to consider selling the 22HP brass. My guess is that it will fetch you more than double the number of good 30-30 brass in trade.

There is quite a following of the 22HP over on the 24hrcampfire in the Savage Collectors forum.
