.22 rimfire barrel cleaning

I'm just getting started in rimfire benchrest (USBR) and plan on shooting in the Sporter Class.

Having grown up hunting and shooting pistol competition for several years, I familiar with handling, cleaning, etc.

Recently I was at a big bore shoot and the shooters there cleaned a lot. Anywhere after 3 shots to 8 shots. Only a couple of guys said they only cleaned the rifle when they got home.

Last weekend I was at a USBR match and nobody clean a rifle, during a break, relay, never. I asked almost everyone there about cleaning the rifle and everyone agreed they only cleaned it when their group changed.

I would like to hear from some experienced shooters and hear the opinions.

Thanks

The centerfire benchrest shooters have an entirely different set of problems. Copper vs lead of rimfire. Higher pressures and heat. On page 2 of this forum is a 2 page discussion on cleaning. I have a two part article at: http://www.aircapgunclub.org/Articles/RimfireAccuracy/Rimfire_Accuracy_Pt_I.asp
