22 PPC 8' Twist and High ES Numbers

I'm working with a new barrel . It's a 28" Krieger, 1:8" twist chambered in 22 PPC with a .243" neck. I have been working up loads for 80 gr. VLD bullets Berger and JLK as well as some 80 gr. SMK's using N-540, N-550,and IMR-4895 have not tried H-4895 or Varget. Primers used are CCI-450, BR-4 and Fed. 205GM's . I am getting really high ES numbers which kinda surprised me. They are running from the lowest 18.87 to in the high 30's.It's really important that I get a good low ES for 600 yd. groups. Should I ream flash holes with a K&M flash hole reamer? Anyone have any suggestions to help. or is this typical for this cartridge ?

Thanks,
Rodney

Very little neck tension is working for accuracy at 100 yds. but I don't know if it is hurting my ES until I tighten it up and see. I am using a .241" bushing with a .242" loaded diameter neck and I am jamming the VLD's .010" past jam and the Sierra SMK's and Nosler HPBT's .004" past jam but tonight I backed the Nosler 80's off .004" from where they were and groups went from ...well... a cloverleaf group to a single hole . There was not enough light for the chrono to work so I don't know my ES from those groups but it sure helped my group size.

Rodney,
I was thinking of making a 22 PPC with a 1-8 twist about 28 inches long to shoot in the Hickory Egg Shoot,500 yard max.) and some 600 yard competiton. I am wondering how fast the 22 PPC can drive the 80 grainers. Maybe you can answer this for me? Thanks, Samuel Hall in NC.

I made some really good progress reducing my ES when I jammed the bullets hard into the lands and tightened up the neck tension a little. Thanks, for the tip Mr. Jacobs.

Sam, I am getting around 3070 to 3100 with N-540, RL-15 and Varget. N-550 pushed them 3200 but accuracy wasn't quite as good in my rifle at 100 yds but couldn't tell much difference at 562 yds. What is it you're up to Sam... messin" with perfection ???LOL!

Rodney,
I can't help but try to build a better mouse trap. If you will keep us posted about your progress with your 22 PPC,Long Range) I would sure like to see how it does. In the mean time I have not seen anything to beat the 6BR's consistently out to 600 yards. I have a 6x47 Lapua that shows ALOT of promise. I am going to shoot it at 600 at Piedmont in HG next week. Hope to see you there. Samuel
I just remembered: Eric Stecker from Berger said they are working on a 22 cal. 82g BT. That might be the ticket in your 22PPC. The Berger plain BT's are the only thing I have found that will shoot consistent in my 6x47 Lapua's.

So, far the 80 gr. Berger VLD is shooting the best with a .010" jam and RL-15 seems to be the powder it likes with any bullet. Jamming the bullet further into the lands did help the high ES.Just like everyone said it would and by the way Thanks, everyone.
With the bullet into the lands this far I am getting 3169 fps. Not bad for the little PPC case considering the fastest I ever shot my 22 Dasher was 3300 fps with 80 grain bullets. I'm still not sure if I'll shoot it at Piedmont or not . Trying to talk my son into shooting it .
