22 NOSLER AR-15 RECOMMENDATIONS

I am looking to purchase an AR-15 upper in a 22 NOSLER for yote hunting. I plan on shooting the 53gr VMAX bullet. What twist barrel would you recommend the 12 twist or 8 twist or something in between ? I would also like a side charging unit but not a necessity . It must be threaded for a silencer. Can you guide me in the right direction for a manufacture. I am not looking for a CHEAPIE upper. NEW ONLY

6mmAR.com this might be a good place to look, I didn't see the 22 nosler, though you would find it interesting,

If that's the only bullet that you shoot, then a 12 twist is what you want. The 8 twist will work with bullets in the 80 grain range.

I don't think that you would find any other twist unless you order custom or build it yourself. If this is your plan, I'd suggest talking to the guys at Craddock Precision. They made a 12 twist 223 barrel for me from a Rock blank. That barrel shoots cheap Midway Dogtown ammo into neat little half inch groups.

Are you open to building your own custom upper? Odin works makes a threaded 18" barrel, but it is the 1:8 twist.

Hohn : I just watched the entire videos on the 22 Nosler and was amazed!!! I just thru the entire project in the FIRE. Thank you for saving me a lot of money. JCM24M

I have two White Oak arms barrels and shoot 50 gr really good. They both function great if you only put in 7 or 8 shells in a 10 rd mag. There both 1 - 12 twist. I thought about shooting 40 gr in one, just havent got around to it.

JC. I have a 6DTI. From Dtech. It’s a 6.8spc necked down to 6mm. I use it for coyote in Montana. Much better ballistics than the 22 Nosler. Super easy to load just run a 6.8 spc thru the full length 6dti die and load.

I bought a few White Oak Armament .22 Nosler uppers (and had them thread them for brakes) for a cost of about $700.00 each (including a nice side-discharge brake). That was about a year ago. They had two barrel twists from which to choose, the most common being 1-8" or 1-12". The slower twist is just for those light varmint bullets, which is what IO usually shoot the most (I shoot 55 Blitz Kings and 55 Nosler Lead Free Ballistic Tips and 50 Barnes Varmint Grenades). While the 1-12 would have been just fine for my average use, I wanted the option to be able to shoot heavier bullets such as in the 70's if desired. So - I opted for the 1-8" twist on both uppers and I could not be happier - and I'm pretty picky. If you want a quality upper - they are the type you want. I still haven't shot anything heavier than 55's in mine - just too much fun shooting the 55's I have a surplus of. I really had the Berger 73's in mind when I bought them.
