22 mag

Anshutz, Kimber, CZ, are all good quality, but finding one may take some time. Savage Anshutz are Anshutz before they had an import license of their own, and will be much cheaper but of exactly the same quality.

Another step up is Cooper. A step down, though just as accurate, is any of the Mossberg 640 Chuckster line. Marlin made a bunch of nice 22 mag bolt action rifles.

I have a Savage 93 heavy barrel that I'm prepping for next summer's pd shoot. It has a plastic stock, but there are laminate and wood stock models. I recently checked the new Rem 40 gr and the Fed 30 gr TNT ammo. Both under .5 inch at 50 yards. The tnt holes in the shoot and see target looked like a hole punch for a blinder was used, haven't seen that type of hole in the target. Could be a fun inside 100 yard pd round.

a old nice condition marlin would be nice if i can find one.
I dislike the Marlin - the safety is on the same axle as the trigger. Mine fired once when I took the safety off. I took a hammer to it.
I now have a Chinese 22 (JW15) with a Truflite barrel. Loves 30g ammo.

Titus, I have a very nice CZ 455 American in 22magnum. It's not for sale but I might work a trade for a 17 Hornet like the one I tried to buy from you twice.
Regards, Mark

The old Ruger 77/22 mag with HB, stainless, target model. The only one I ever shot made me a believer. Loved it but owner wouldn't sell. So I went out and bought a 77/hornet...which made me an athiest....

X2 on the CZ 457 They're about as good as it gets without going to a custom and spending a whole lot more money. Regardless of what you get you're still going to be limited by the quality of the ammo and unlike 22LR's there's no match/target grade ammo for all the other rimfires.

But, a 457 can be "switch barreled" to 17 HMR or 22lr. All it takes is a barrel, magazine well, and magazine to to to 22lr and only a barrel to go to 17HMR. Or when you get a little extra cash, pick up a Lilja barrel and go Cadillac.

Browning A bolt, Mauser 201 are top drawer shooters. Marlin 25M are incredible shooters in the wood stocks that I have owned, so was a Savage. Re spring triggers in the Marlin and Savage.

I burned through half a dozen Ruger 77's, still have an All Weather with the Skeleton stock.

Never shoot a plated bullet in your 22 mag, shoot a true jacketed HP, Winchester 40g HP tops the list.

A custom 22 mag, chambered with a Match grade reamer is amazing in terms of accuracy. Pard had one made off of a TC Contender...unreal.

Clean your 22 Mag every 250 rounds, just like you would a centerfire to keep that sub inch accuracy going at 100 yards.

I have a CZ 455 American in .22LR that I bought the 22 WMR barrel for from CZ USA about 3 years ago. It is very accurate with the Hornady 30 grain V-Max , sub MOA at 100 yards. I have heard that the Savage model 93 in 22WMR can also very accurate and you can get them with a wood stock for a very modest amount of money.

I have a Marlin 925M that I bought years ago that I absolutely love. Very accurate nice handling rifle. It shoots the 40gr CCI Maxi Mags under MOA at 100 yards. That thing has killed literally hundreds of Jack Rabbits and a handful of Coyotes over the years. Thats one rifle I will never get rid of and it was less than $300 bucks.

Ruger 77/22 if you can find one for a reasonable price.
That would be my choice. Seen a bunch of them and they all shot well. Only trouble is, they're hard to come by and prices have gone up. My own has been re-worked and shoots like a target gun. Plus a 9rd flush magazine.

I have a CZ-455 with both 22 LR and 22 Mag heavy barrels, the 22 Mag goes hunting and the LR barrel goes on in the summer for shooting fun with y wife.

Great rig for populated areas +1 on the 40gr Jacketed a lot cheaper than putting a can on a big rifle.
