.22 LR Pistol prowess

This evening I fired two hundred thirty-six grain High Speed hollow-point fare into 1.5 inch groups at fifty feet using my Ruger Competiton 6 7/8" barreled Mark III. Yes, I used sand-bags and a Bushnell Trophy Red-Dot sight, but my result was merely average. I used Remington "Golden Bullets" which are mediocre in performance. CCI 40 grain Mini-Mags may have cut my group-size slightly, but one uses what one has at hand. Any shooting event is fun and productive. Keeping sharp is the goal. With the few days of "spring" afforded us shooters, I shall shoot some .243 Winnie Poohs before the predicted snows bury my rifle range again. Michigan weather is very unpredictable due to "lake effect." Cliffy

hey not trying to hijack the thread but i was wondering ruger or browning, which should i get? is one better than the other or would i be happy with either one? i don't need it for competition just for necessity when i rifle would be in the way.
any info would be great.

.22 LR pistol prowess begins with practice, and for that one requires decent cartridges. Attempt to locate CCI Stingers or Velocitors, I dare you. Even the once common CCI Mini Max is among the MISSING. What's happened to CCI production? Cliffy, I want to know.

Browning vs Ruger in quality, accuracy, bang for the buck? Well, the only Browning I've ever shot was a Superposed 12 gauge, and it was dependable and great for trap-shooting. I believe a Ruger .22 LR Mark III pistol is as dependable and accurate as would ever be required for target shooting. If one added a defensive firearm, I'd suggest a .45 ACP caliber above a .22 LR defense weapon. IF ALL I HAD was a .22 Rimfire pistol to save my life, CCI STINGERS and CCI VELOCITORS would be my rounds of self-defense choice. Unfortunately these specified rounds are extremely difficult to find or buy to date. Since stovepipes and misfires are not acceptable defensewise, other .22 Long Rifle ammo is okay for target shooting for practice. cliffy

hey thanks for the oppinion, just in case anybody was concerned it is not for self defense except agianst armordillos.
my 1911 will take care of the defense if needed.
