22 LR Body reamer

hello, I have in my hands a beautiful PTG 22 lr match reamer, but I have a question , what is the purpose of the second and third thicker sharpen edges stages of the reamer if just the first stage is the real cutter of the chamber?

Thanks!

Torbay,
Might I suggest you give Dave Kiff a call at PTG - (541-826-5808). He's the Guru of all PTG reamers.

Send them an email. They are pretty good about answering. [br]
I only have their non-belted centerfire reamers but the cutting edges, from the pilot back, are: [br]
1. leade - tapered portion, usually 1½°
2. freebore - cylindrical
3. chamber end - steeply tapered portion, usually 45°
4. chamber neck - cylindrical section, usually noted on reamer if non-standard
5. shoulder - steeply tapered section, angle whatever the cartridge is
6. body - shallow taper, whatever the body is [br]
Sorry if this is overstating the obvious.

Hello Shynloco, thanks for the suggestion but I don't want bother him with this rookie question.

Thanks

Torbay,
Trust me on this...Dave doesn't mind. He's a super good guy and will be happy to answer any questions anyone has about their reamers. And like was suggested, if you are concerned about "bothering" Dave, send him an email. I'll take your time "bothering" Dave with one of my lamer issues.

Torbay

You need the thicker angles to support the thin cutting edge.
If the cutting edge is to wide there is a chance the heel or back of the cutting edge will drag and cause chatter.

Torbay, Give me a call 541-826-5808. I would like to tell you about the reamer grind. Call me any time Thanks Dave.
