22 Hornet

I just acquired a new to me M77/22 Hornet and am ready to start reloading for it. I was just wondering how finicky of a cartrige it was to load and if there were any "secrets" to know about in advance? Thank you in advance.

I have a CZ527 Hornet - it's had the barrel floated, been recrowned, and dual pillar epoxy bedded.

It shoots slightly larger than caliber size 3 shot groups with the 34g Midway DogTown FBHP bullet set out to just fit in the magazine, Winchester Small Rifle Primer, 13.3g of Lil'Gun. It shoots clover leaf groups with the Hornady 35g V-Max loaded the same way.

I use a Redding neck sizing die. So far I haven't had to FL size the brass.

I shot two ground hogs with it yesterday using the Midway DogTown bullet, one at 197 yards, another at 228 yards. They happen to be my two longest ever shots with the Hornet. Before yesterday the longest was 167 yards (with the 35g V-Max).

The Hornet is an incredibly fun rifle to hunt varmints with. The two loads I mentioned work in both my CZ and my buddies Browning. Worth a try anyway.
