22 Hornet clip?

I found this 22 Hornet clip in the bottom of a box of reloading stuff I inherited. Anyone have an idea was rifle this fits?

Thanks, Tim

I looked at my 43 in 218 Bee it is different on the side metal stamping will try to look today at a savage 340.

Please don't beat me up but in the era of gun-haters making up terms it's important for gun enthusiasts to use the proper naming convention. That component is a "magazine," specifically a "spring-fed box magazine."

I was reading down thru the replies and was amazed I got so far before somebody did the "speech". It was known as a clip for a hundred years and everybody and his brother knew what it was. The internet always brings out the worst in the small minds.

It's not really a big deal either way. My dad is 82 and still refers to magazines as clips. I always joke with him and say, dad, guns haven't used "clips" since WW II. He just kinda gives me that, whatever, eyeroll thing and continues to call them clips but I think he does it just to eff with me. lol

Would it have been more acceptable (to you) to respond with an insult instead of an attempt to possibly educate someone. I for one would be appreciative, small mind an all.

If you look at older 22 rifles they came with single stack, 5 round clips. Box magazine nomenclature seems to have started with military rifles. The magazine does not have to be detachable either. Look at Springfield n Mausers, they have magazines. M14, AR15 all have detachable box ( staggered) magazines.
These old rifles in Hornet n Bee often were based on rimfire actions. M43 Winchesters in Hornet, Bee, 25-20 used the bolt handle as a locking lug and carried extra rounds in clips. They also ran into headspace problems as the number of rounds fired increased Due to soft bolt handles.
Sorry for getting long winded n a bit off track. Slow day!

Thanks for the info, it's appreciated. I'm always confused with the 1896 "Broomhandle" C96 Mausers which are also interesting with having stripper clips for the internal "magazine," 10/20rd detachable magazines, and I believe you can use the stripper clip on the 10rd detachable magazine without removing it.

Bob3700 - A while back I followed an interesting dialog on why contemporary .44 caliber handguns are really .43 caliber and .38 caliber are really a .36 caliber. Of course, the .45 calibers had to stay .45 caliber. There's actually an article somewhere out there on the internet.

You input prompted me to research the early 22 rifles and their feed system.

I had a Cooper repeater and I really think that is what that mag is. I bought that gun used but like new probably in the 80s. I bought it off of Warren Trinkle, owner of Warrens guns in Switz City IN for seems like a little over 1000 dollars. Mine fed fine.
They didn't make them very long and I sold it to another dealer for a big profit. Came to find out they are very rare and worth a ton of money. There will probably be someone who will tell you it was never made, I know that they were made and of course wish I still had it.
If that is what that mag is for it is worth a whole lot!!! Gary
