Anyone have any experience with the 90 gr's
with the Dasher or BRX?
6.5 or 7 twist?????
I want to try them and need to know what
twist works in the real world.

Randy,
I do not yet, but my smith and I want to make a 1000 yard 22 cal rifle and the 22brx is what we are going to try with the 90's, I have a Witchita that is chambered now for 6brx and 22br so I will just buy a 1:6.5 about 30" long and give it a try, you build a dasher and we can compare notes ;) However I only intend on shooting mine at 1K, I am sure your going 1760 ;D,.....take care.
Wayne.

i would not go with the 6.5 twist. a 7 twist will do. laurie holland from across the pond shoots a .223 rem with a 7 twist and 90 grain bergers at 1000 yards and he does very good with it. plus, with the velocity you will be shooting them at, it is just added stress to the bullet jacket

With the speed that the 22brx could generate, I would prob try maybe a 7.5 twist, nothing lower than a 7.2.. might even consider a 7.7.

Randy,
What are you running on your .223?
Wayne.

Wayne,
I don't have a 223 but I do have a 22 Dasher 8 twist.
1,000 yards is no problem with the 80 SMK.
I have not tried the 90's as I don't have enough twist.

The 7.2 twist is the right choice. 7 is OK. 6.5 is too fast. It also depends on which bullet you use. The Berger 90HPBT will stabilize in a 7.7. I have been using this combination for years in my XTC gun. It is an easy bullet to tune, and forgiving of seating depth.

All the other 90s are aggressive VLD designs, meaning finicky and temper-mental. They all require 7 to 7.2 twist. Too fast a twist and jackets tear up, too slow and it won't stabilize. Its a narrow window. It also depends on how fast you shoot them. For example Sierra recommends no faster than 2650fps, due to the thin jacket. No speed limit on Berger or JLK. Seating depth is also crtitical. Only experimentation in your rifle will tell.

Some folks have great success, others not. I got my Palma rifle shooting very well with the Berger 90VLDs at around 2900 with a 7 twist.

Have fun.

Birdog,
That is a beauty for sure, I should use peoples username's instead of your real names, yours isn't to bad but FroggyOne2 almost gives me Carpal Tunnel spelling it out so I used his name instead but when you both share the same name I guess it isn't smart,...sorry. FroggyOne2 do you think the added velocity of a 22brx or Dasher over your .223 that your 1:7.2 would still work? I know your shooting the big 90's and quite well I might add :)

I have used the 90gn Begrer and Sierra in 7" twist 22BRX. No worries about being finicky, just jam it .015"-.025" and it will be fine. Mine was very accurate, but once the throat started getting rough it did start to blow some jackets apart when pushed hard. These 90gn bullets have not worked in a few 8" twist barrels I have used, stable usualy but poor accuracy. If I was to do it again, I would go for something between 7-8" twist as others have said.
