22 Creedmoor with 75 grain Amax

Can anyone here tell me from past experience will H4895 give me better velocity with the 75 grain Amax in 22 creed then say Varget? Looking for the fastest velocity I can get in 22 Creedmoor with the 75 grain Amax . I have a 26 inch barrel with 1-8 twist and have IMR 4350 , H4350, Varget, H4895 and IMR 8208 XBR powders to choose from

You want faster....go bigger and be safe. 22-284....22 6.5PRC....22 SAUM....22WSM.....22-300 WBY. Let us know how it goes when you get to the 22-50BMG.

All kidding aside.....I cant find ANY data with powders that fast. Fastest powder I have seen listed for the 22 Creed is H4350.....even with 55 gr bullets. How much Varget are you using now. Compressed load?

If you have some, give RL-23 a try. i don't have a .22 Creedmoor, but I do have a couple of .22-.250 AIs and their capacity is very, very similar. 3,400 plus is easily within reach with this powder. RL-26 will go even faster but it is temp-sensitive, while RL-23 is not.

This is what I use.

Those powders are too fast burning for 22Creedmoor.
Now Hodgdon has data online so look there but I have been loading for it since 2012 IIRC and am on my 3rd barrel.
Three or four top speed getters would be Reloder 26 / 4000 MR/ Staball 6.5/ Reloder 23 / N 565 pretty much in that order.
Lots of folks run H4350 and it works well but some of the velocity you see they are up near 70,000 PSI.
Strong brass and rifles don’t really show the excessive pressures but it’s there as I had my standard load that I shot hundreds of rounds of checked and it was 70,000+ ......oops:)
So take all these speeds you see online with some skepticism and use Hodgdon data and you should be fine.
With a 26 inch barrel and 75gr you should “with”correct powder get 3400ish .
Those running 3500+ range are let’s say happily oblivious but outside the commonly acceptable norms.

so your saying Varget won’t give good results?

22-250 BMG

Not if top velocity is your goal. Hodgdon distributes Varget and they don’t even show data with it for that weight range.
It would work for lighter bullets I guess but again not gong to get max velocity without hitting excessive pressures. Of the powders you listed H4350 would work well getting you pretty close to tops speeds but again Hodgdon doesn’t even list it as a option because slower burn rate powders give better performance like H1000
I have ran 69-88gr bullets and the pure speed winner is Reloder 26 so that’s your Huckleberry is speed is the goal.

Yeah, no. As others have mentioned, H4895 wouldn't work very well. Here's a partial table, in descending order from highest muzzle velocity, of powders you might want to look at...

I have had good luck with IMR 4451 in both of my 22 creedmoor barrels, but I’m shooting 90 and 95 grain bullets. It may be worth trying.
4451 is what I started fire forming brass with, my plan was to shoot H4350 after forming.
My fire form loads shot small and had good velocity so I stayed with it and saved my H4350 for the 6.5s.
Barrel life is short so I’m glad I didn’t have to much load development to get them going. 3223 fps with 90s and 3180 fps with 95s.
The loads for both of these barrels were the easiest I’ve found for any rifle I’ve had, first tests were great, probably some luck in there also.

Looking at that QL for Reloder 26 made me cringe a little. I am aware that all rifles are different but 45.5gr of Reloder 26 was max in my rifle and in a pressure test that load was above 70,000 PSI. Loading at 47.7gr would have been scary stuff.

I'm with Intell, I'm using H4350 with Hornady 88's.. Running a bit over 3,200 with fine accuracy. They are rough on coyotes !

There are some threads in the Small Stuff sub-forum with load data. Mine likes RE16 with Nosler 77gr CC.
