22 CM which loads burn the bbl up

This is the typical I want to drive fast around corners but dont want my tires to wear.
22 Creed Burns barrels.

I probably talk to 3 customers a week calling specifically to ask about the 22 Creedmoor because they read on the internet that it burns barrels I always ask them, compared to what? It's a 22 hot rod. It's going to have barrel life similar to all the other 22 hot rods throughout history. I don't think it's any more of a particular barrel burner than any of the others. If you use a super hot powder in it to get ultra high velocities then yeah you're probably going to burn your barrel up sooner. But it really has nothing to do with being a 22 Creedmoor.

Right now I say I'm probably selling as many 22 Creedmoor barrels as anything. I've been selling the 22 Creedmoor for about 3 years. I haven't had a customer come back to me and say they need a new barrel because they burned the other one up.

Yup, same here with the 20BR project I did a lot of looking and reading. It paid off in the long run, very happy with my load work and development.

Speed kills

Actually, the speed of the bullet has nothing to do with anything. What scorch is the throat is the flame temperature. You could shoot a slower load with n540 than a faster load h1000, and burn the barrel up faster. Because the flame temperature of h1000 is so cool you can actually go faster and do less damage.

Years ago, Kevin Thomas ( Sierra Bullets) observed that fast twist 6mm barrels had a shorter life with heavy (107gr) bullets. One thought was the heavier bullet took longer to accelerate n the throat was exposed to the hot gases just a bit longer.
That was back when folks were starting to shoot 243s XC n for LR prone.
