22 BR question

I've got a 8 twist Lilja going onto a Rem 40, chambering for 22 BR, want to shoot 75 gr Amax, smith wants a dummy round to set throat, how deep do I
seat the projectile, from brass base to ogive?
Thanks

My guess, and it`s only a guess, would be the bottom of the bullet no lower than the neck/shoulder junction to keep case capacity at a maximum....

I`m also assuming there is enough grip on the bullet to do it this way.

Please correct me if i`m wrong...

Phil.

I like to have my seated bullets with the base just a little ( approx. .020") in front of the neck/shoulder junction.

Take the 75 gr. A-Max and lay it alongside the case neck & position it so the full bullet diameter is at that location, use a single edge razor blade to put a cut mark on the bullet, in line with the case mouth, then seat that bullet so the cut mark stops at the case mouth.

The boatail, or at least part of it will be hanging down in the shoulder area. Seating about .020" in front of the neck/shoulder junction will keep the bullet bearing surface away from a donut that may form there in the future.

Just my way of doing it, I'm sure there are other methods, but I don't like to give up valuable bullet/ case neck contact. That will happen soon enough with normal throat erosion requiring the bullet to be seated further and further out of the neck.

l shoot my .22b/r
MY o-give using 75 amax is 1-720"
the barrel is a Tru-flite 1in8 twist 26"

This is what my smith does for me, everyone is different, so it is a guide hope it helps

Bullets will vary from lot to lot but i have found that if i start with the base of the bullet even with the neck shoulder junction things work, the boatail wil be down in the pdw but not a problem
