22 BR BAT

after a long hard thought! was goin to go 22-243 middlestead, but after thinkin about custom dies, fireforeming, what gains and pros&cons. i have decided on a 22br
i want it to be a fox, long range rifle.im thinkin 75 amax. all info ie,twist rate, barrell, bullett will be gladly taken.its goin to be mated to aBAT single shot.
many thanks LEE

Good thinking, and I really don't think the poor foxes are going to like it very much, but I'll bet the farm you will........
Minimum of a 9 twist.. and a 8 twist will be better..
The 75 grain A-max is a no brainer in it...
H4350 will help it move along at a good speed...
My opinion, but the BRUX barrels really shine.....

8" twist barrel of your choice--you will have great accuracy from 60-80 grain bullets. varget, 4007ssc, 4350 would be powders of choice (single based for temp spreads). i would keep it to 26" max length if you are going to do any walking around with it

Hmmm, single shot BAT sounds like it could do double duty as an F-Class competition rifle as well as a fox gun. If its long range (out to 1000 yards) then the 75-80gr AMAX in an 8 twist would work well. If its F-Class then the Berger 90gr VLDs have a BC better than the 6mm range of bullets but being longer than the 80 grainers need a 7 twist barrel.

I shoot the 90gr VLDs form my Krieger 7 twist (31.5") barrel at 3120fps and it gives unbelievable accuracy, it would decimate dog towns at long range.

+1 on the 75gn A Max. There have been a few quality issues with the 80gn versions. With the 75gn you will be able to get by with a 9" twist barrel, which will also work with 60gn V Maxs if you decide to try them. With 75gn A Max, a full case off H4350 will work well. You might need a long skinny drop tube and tap the powder in slowly to get enough in the case, depending on the length of the throat. The milder primers worked better than CCI450s in mine. I used mine in F class out to 1100yds with very good results out to about 800yds. You say it is for hunting foxes, where abouts are you?
