22" 6x47 or 6XC wanting 3k with 105 Hybrids need some info for QL

I need to know some info so I can run some numbers in QL. I want to get 3000 fps out of the Hybrid 105's in a 22"ish barrel for a tactical build. I need the actual case volume & O.A.L. of both cartridges to plug in and get some numbers. I see plenty of speed data for both cartridges but none with a short barrel.

I'll be running an 8 twist and coating the bore and bullets with hBN.

I was initially going to build a 28" 6SLR but, I wanted a more maneuverable overall length and I felt the added boiler room of the larger case is wasted on a short barrel.

Thanks

I am doing the same thing. Either case will get you there. The xc will give 40-50 fps more. But, I like the small primer and shorter case of the 6x47.

Are you sure about that, zfast? I can run 3180 MV in my 28" 6XC with 7828ssc. I changed my QL to a 22" barrel and it came back with 3000 MV on the nose. In other words, 3000 fps is the upper limit for the 6XC, so I'm not too sure the 6x47L will get there. But it would be close.

Edit: By the way, I extended my throat by .040" from the standard reamer, so my OAL would be non-standard.

I ran the 6x47L on quickload and got 3012 fps with a 105 vld and 40 grains of h4350, with an oal of 2.7'', I got 3028 in the xc using 41 grains and 2.7'' oal. Thats is close to max, you may get more or less in your barrel. I'd say in terms of performance it a wash, hell you can get 3k out of the dasher in 22" in you cram 36.7 grains of h4350 in there. That is off quick loads, but I wouldnt doubt it.

Thanks for the replys but, I have QL and can come to my own conclusions. I need the case capacity of both cartridges (real world) and OAL with the hybrid bullet. The barrel is not chambered yet so, I cant get my own.

If anybody has real world velocities with a 22" 8 twist barrel shooting these bullets, that would be helpful as well.

I don't want to start any arguments between members here.

Bill, couldn't I just take your OAL and subtract 0.040" for a "standard" chambering?

Unfortunately, no, Mooster. Because .040 was an arbitrary number. I used a throating reamer to lengthen my freebore. I don't recall exactly how much throat I removed - it was somewhere between .030" and .050".
I also don't know OAL as all my measurements are to the ogive. I also don't have any loaded rounds to check as my one 6XC barrel on my 12BVSS is for sale and the other 6XC barrel is off the Savage PTA (6SLR barrel is on it).

Well, thanks anyway.

On another note, I just installed the latest QL update and I'm just a tad disappointed. It doesn't list the 105 Hybrids, 6mm SLR or RL33 powder.

That's 0 for 3! >:(

My QL version has the 105 Hybrid but no 6mmSLR. I just use the straight .243 and adjust case capacity.

Edit: Do you live near Wooster? I'll be in southern Knox County starting on 4/7 for around 6 months.

Jim, I did some digging thru old records and I came up with some info that could help you.

My case capacity averaged for 5 cases is 50.02 grains. Try using a OAL of 2.739" for a .020" jump with the 105 Hybrids.

For highest velocity in a 28" barrel, my opinion is IMR7828ssc with large rifle magnum primers for the 105 class bullets. Again, my QL says you can just get there with that powder in a 22" barrel. But there would be better choices for powders to better match burn rate with barrel length. And you now have some numbers to work with in your QL program.

Hope this helps.

My accuracy/hunting load is 40.5 grains of H-4350 with moly plated 105 VLD's run 3030 in a 22" Rock 8 twist.

Is this a 6x47L or 6XC?
