22-6x47 Lapua

Texas

Silver $$ Contributor
Has anyone tried a 6x47 Lapua necked down to 22 caliber? I shoot the 6x47 in several rifels and figured maybe it would be a good 22 caliber also. Any feedback would be appreciated.
Thanks

Howdy !

As regards " any repsonse " ......

I designed a wildcat, obtained by necking .35Rem down to .224".

This is similar case capacity to the notional .22-6X47L you mention. A case of this size makes for a great dual-role' cartridge, when loaded
w/ other thoughtfully chosen components.

.35 Rem does run w/ a LR primer, yes. However, that is no death sentence on accuracy. The SR primered' case you have in-mind,
will do just fine !

For some idea on obtainable vel:
From a 24" 1-14 SS Hart 5-groove, .22-35 easily propelled 55SX to 3,690fps, on a 41.2gr WW760 charge + FED LR Magnum Match.
41.6gr VV160 + FED LR Magnum Match also shot quite well.

From a 28" 1-8 K & groove, .22-35 propelled 75"A"-Max to 3,500, on a 40.5gr charge of AA3100 + FED LR Magnum match.

Other powders/charges may very well have produce higher vel's, but the quoted loads also proved quite accurate ( my gun, my loads ).

For a case capacity like this, it would be interesting to see what " Superperformance ", IMR 4007SC, Hybrid 10X and similar new powders
could do ?

With a standard lenght-of-pull and an actionof average length, you probably could go w/ a 29" barrel; and the gun still fit an Plano " Airglide ".

I DK if any of that helps ?

357- Thanks for the feedback. Sounds like it could be a winner. I'm wondering about inherent acuracy and how easy it will be to make one shoot. I hate chasing the perfect load for too long. I was thinking a 25 or 26 inch barrel varmint rifle. I already have the brass and dies, just need the right bushing for it.

I've been shooting a 22-6.5x47 Lapua for a few years..
I set it up to shoot 75 grain A-max bullets, with H-4350, and it does that very well..
Hardly ever let the 22/250 Ackley out of the safe these days because of it....

I use my Redding 6.5x47 Lapua FL-S die for my 22-243-257, and 6.5x47 Lapua chambers, I just change out the bushings..

There is a comparison of the 22X47 L and the .22/250AI at the end of the ".22/250 Cartridge" section. My comments are listed there. Vic
