22-6mm Rem Help

I have a Remington 700 with a Shilen 8 twist barrel 27 inches long looking for some load info. I have tried 75 grain VLD's and RL-25 with federal 210 & 215 match primers and the results were awful any help would be great.

Mine shoots the 70 VLD Berger with H4831SC very well. Start around 44 or 45 grains and work up. 47.5 is where I ended up, and it shot benchrest quality groups for a few hundred rounds. It won't take long and the extreme heat and pressure will cook the throat. This is an excellent chambering to use the salt bath nitriding on.

I am building a 22-284 and sent the barrel out for cyro-freezing (300 below) to slow erosion. Tell me more about this "salt bath nitriding"

I shot the 22/6mmAI . Loads were 46gr 4831SC or RL-22 under 80gr. Sierra MK , Rem case and Fed 215M primers , bullets jammed 20 into lands . Out of a 27 inch 8 twist tube , they averaged 3400+ fps . Groups at a grand were 6 inches on a calm day for 5 shots . Barrel burned out at 1200 rounds . Whether you shoot the Ackley or the standard 6mm case , bullets need to be jammed . I think one of the guys from Hornady shoots this caliber at a 1000 yards , and has posted info here also . I made several shots on PD's at the 1300 yard mark , my longest shot 1378 yards with this caliber . I thought it was a bit wind sensitive , my long gun now is 6.5/284 , 1500 yards plus .

I also had great accuracy with the 80 gr. Sierra bullets with the bullets set into the lands about the same. The 77 gr SMK`s also shoot real well. You will just have to hunt for the best load. I bought some Mag Pro powder because I thought it should be the best burn rate, but could not get it to shoot in my 22-6mm. It is an excellant choice for my 6-284`s though. ::) You just never know what your gun will like.

Still no better 1 inch groups with every powder and charge, primers didn't make a difference. After looking at the fire control, i think this is where the problem lies. the fire control has a shinny spot wore on it and i think this is causing inconsistent ignition.

Try this phone number: 1-704-616-6442. The guys name is Joel. I had a midway 24" .25-06 barrel rechambered to .257 Weatherby. It produces velocities almost 3,700 feet per second. I called him to see if the nitriding does something. He said normally you gain about 1.5 percent. That is a free 50 feet per second gain in a barrel that is supost to last twice as long. Groups are between 2 1/2" and 3" at 300 yards. Not bad for a cheap barrel with the first load.
