What twist would be appropriate for a 22-284 set up for 80 gr A-Maxes?

Would a 30" barrel be enough for this round?

Thanks for the help.

Dennis

A 1-8" twist will be sufficient for 80 and 90's. I built one that was .235" short, and it will propell 80's @ 3600 fps with a 26" barrel. I started with a 30" barrel, and got the same velocity with Rel 22, and after I cut the barrel down to 27", I went to H4350 and got a little more speed with less powder. I could also push 90 gr. SMK @ 3500 fps with no problem.

Yes, 1 in 8 twist barrel, and keep barrel at 28" minimum so all that slow burning powder will be ignited. A 22-.284 is one impressive round and may be at the top of the critter getter chain in the 22 cal world. I experimented with 69 Sierras in mine and was getting 3900 fps plus in my Lilja barrelled 40X. A lot of case prep but so much fun to shoot! :)
