22-250AI shooters. What throat do you spec on reamer shooting 55 grain and lighter bullets?

I am specing outa new reamer and need to know how you guys are setting the throat up when shooting 55 grain and lighter bullets. I know I could start out at 0 and let it grow but want to keep 55grain bullet base out of the donut area. Thanks for the suggestions.

I’ve had a few that I shot 55’s out of. A .025 fb worked great

.025 will work as Dasher said. I have a .040 freebore reamer that works with 7 ogive 52 gr hollow points as well as the 55 gr. V-Max and 55 Ballistic Tips. It gives me a bit more latitude by getting the base of the bullet slightly further up the neck in case the barrel likes a little jump. Either one will get the job done for you.

Not too many 22-250AI shooters maybe you can help? My fireformed brass has a very heavy bolt lift and is very hard to full size.(after fireforming ) Will this get better with subsequent firings thanks ed

another thing to think about. Make sure the barrel twist works with the 53grn V-Max bullets.

That's a very interesting question I am getting ready to chamber 2 of these 22-250 Ackleys an hope someone could give an answer in case the guy's I'm doing these for run in to the same situation.

0 FB on my reamer puts the intersection of the boat tail/shank right at the shoulder /neck junction on a 55g Nosler ballistic tip. The 55g Nosler BT is one heck of a good killing coyote bullet.

50g Nosler ballistic tip, bottom of the bullet is at the shoulder neck junction.

In this same zero freebore chamber, I shot the 60g Berger with Win 760 into very tiny bug holes, so did several other guys at 3700 in 12T Hart barrels. This load makes a gut rug out of a coyote.

Reamers are different

CIP spec reamers will handle Lapua and Norma brass

Saami spec reamers will handle all American made brass

Difference is in the web and neck dia...choose your poison.
