22-250AI or 22-250?

Put a couple clicks of elev/az to the glass of the 22-250 chambered rifle w/use of off the shelf bushing dies.

The 22-250AI option is a waste of money in regards to powder, custom dies, barrel life & feeding from a repeater.

Velocity is not king,accuracy is!

A 1:12" twist would not be my choice ....either!!

Building a new coyote gun. Stiller Preditor , Krieger 26" 1-12 barrel. What are the plus and minus's of a 22-250AI over a standard 22-250? Thanks JVON

The minuses are piddling......there's no real downside to the 22-250AI. The AI is faster by a couple hundred fps. I've had rechambered 22-250 barrels but not chrono'd them before and after. My AI 50gr. loads are about 300fps faster than the best ever 50gr load in a std chamber. The AI shoots a bit flatter and hits a bit harder. Accuracy is at least as good as the std case, there's definitely no loss in accuracy. No case stretch. Perfect feeding in the several Rem. 700's I've had. It uses a few gr. more powder because the case is bigger, no suprise there. My dies are Redding comp which are easy enough to get.........pricey to begin with and the AI version is about $40 more than the std...... big deal. My rifles are all 14" twist and they work really well, nothing wrong with a 12" twist.

My 12 twist 22-250 AI shoots the 40 grain ballistic tips into tiny groups at any sane distance..
My 8 twist does the same with the 75 grain A-max.....
Neither one of them has the stretching problem that the parent case is noted for.....
The only minus is the dies are a bit more money, but for the benefits gained, it's no big deal..

@ 4000 Ft above sea level std 22-250
2Grains over max book load for Varget
I can shoot 69's in a 12 twist very accurately for score at 100-200. But they tumble @ 600yds.

Std loads let you shoot 64's at sea level from a 12 twist. Your best load would be a 60 V-Max or a 64 Berger.

Most of the time the bullet you want to shoot (weight)(length) dictates the barrel. That's my first consideration in a build. Purpose (Target) Varmint? Heavy? light? Choose a bullet weight, then determine the twist needed.
