22-250

I have another action to build off of. It a short action 700. I have a cutom walnut stock that will be pillar bedded and bed with compound. It is going to be a 22.250. Two questions: I have a Pac Nor barrel on my 6.8 AR and really like it are they suitable for this cal. too or is there another barrel maker that it is a better choice. Also is the 14 twist what I want and lenght 24 in. too much. Is there a certian compound for bedding compound or Devecon g2g. any other thoughts overlooked.

rudy16: Have had three 22-250 chamberings, all with 1-14 twists, limiting me to 55 gr. bullet weight,, and only 'short' ones at that), 53 & lighter always seem to produce smaller groups. When the present Rem 700 VLS 26' is shot out,, am seeing the beginning of some serious fire cracking now), it will be replaced with a 1-9 or maybe even a 1-8, letting me use heavier weight/longer bullets, easily justified with the case powder capacity. 'The Varmint Hunter' magazine, July- September 2009 issue, page 76 has an article dealing with the same issue: fast twist barrels on the 22-250 and 220 Swift. As has been my experience with my 223s and 1-8, I am still able to get excellent results with bullets as light as 55 gr., but have the option of around 80 gr. max. Much more versatile.:)

My experience with various barrel makers, including PAC-NOR, has been that they all have shot very well in .22 caliber, mostly 223). None of mine are bench rest guns, but all shoot 1/2 moa with a little load development. The PAC-NOR's were a good bit cheaper than others, but not any more.
