22-250 Savage VLP pet loads

Any suggestions on accuracy loads for the savage 22-250 model 12?
I have been using 35.5 grains of H-380 and Nosler and Hornady 55 grain ballistic tip bullets @ approximately 20T off the lands. During cold weather this load has shot alot of sub 1/4 inch 3 round groups, and usually consistently under 1/2 inch. Now that the weather has warmed my groups have been inconsistent and widened. I know that H-380 is very temperature sensitive and I have just started experimenting with Varget and RL15 with both 55g and 60g bullets,My rifle has a 1-12 twist) with mixed results. I am using this rifle strictly for accuracy on paper and not looking for high velocity. Just wondering if any others have some really accurate pet loads for this rifle they would be willing to share. I'm using Remington brass and cci br primers. Thanks.

I shot 2 crows w/ that bullet at about 100 yds, the first one blew up like it just swallowed a grenade, and the second one just fell off the tree into a pond, maybe it was not a square hit.

I've had good results with 52 berger flatbase and approximately36 grains RL-15, rem. 700 vs,2 seperate savage BVSS 22-250's

One of the reasons that you are having such difficulty is that you are loading on the bottom of the least amount of powder charge which can and does leade to inconsistancies.

bump your charge up to 38.0-39.2g of H380 and see what happens to accuracy and pressure.

I just started working on 60 g vmaxs I shot them with rl-15 powder with decent results. I'm not sure what n-150 is but I am in the process of laddering up with rl15,varget and h-380, and seeing what
shoots the best. It seems that lighter loads have been more accurate with h-380 and 55grain vmaxs so far in cool weather. Maybe as Keith stated, I would get more consistency with more powder
in the case? Maybe it would make the pressure more consistent?

I've gotten similar results from the same combination you mentioned-Varget and 55gr V-max's in 5 shot groups. I've got the mod.#12 in single shot and am very impressed with it.-Steve,share your sport:)

I have been looking at the 40gr ballistic tips loaded with38.5gr of varget, I`m currently getting 1/4" groups at 100yds, 3/4" groups at 200yds and sub 2" groups at 300yds.when zero is set at 200yds, at 100yds it shoots 3/4" low and at 3ooyds about 1"low. when shooting fox I just aim and fire straight at them up to 300, all head shots from rests.you get the same sort of accuracy from 39gr of varget but after this the groups start to widen. the velocity over the chronograph for 38.5 grains of varget in my rifle with a 1 in 12 twist is 3927fps, at 39.5 grains it`s 4185fps but the bullet becomes unstable and the impact on the target to put it at the least is dramatic.
I hope this as spread a little light on varget powder loading .
I have tried 50gr speer tnt bullets where 36.3 gave me the best velocities and groups with good expansion on impact but for vermin shooting stick with the 40gr balistic tips, nosler).

I shot 2 crows w/ that bullet at about 100 yds, the first one blew up like it just swallowed a grenade, and the second one just fell off the tree into a pond, maybe it was not a square hit.
I shot 2 crows with one bullet also, 297yds with 22-250 and 50vmax 36.0 imr 4895 for 3800fps. I exploded one and the other didn't have a mark on him, I figured a bullet fragment!

My load is any 40gr bullet I can get my hands on and 42gr of Varget 4200fps and 46gr for my Ackley Improved Version 4500fps both are 14 Twist 28"

Possibly one of my BEST all time loads, in ANY caliber, EVER:

New Remington Brass, trimmed on a Giraud trimmer
210M Primer
Berger 52 gr. FB bullet, loaded to the length spec'd on the Hodgdon Load Data
38.0 gr. of H-380

I fired 10 of these from a rest from a Savage Model 12 BVSS, using a Leupold 6.5x20 scope, at 100 yards. I wasn't expecting anything great, just trying to get an idea of how they would fire. I put all 10 rounds into a neat uniform little hole, about 3/8" in diameter. I was absolutely stunned, that brand new brass would fire that well.

I passed the load info on to a buddy of mine who was going hunting medium African cats; the guides were ready to buy the rifle and all of the ammo from him, because they never missed with the rifle. The 52 gr. FB Berger didn't tear up the hides of the animals either.

I sold the barrel and stock to a buddy of mine, and he uses it as a varmint rifle on his farm, and he says its still his 'go to' rifle & load for wood chucks, fox, raccoons, and any other animal that runs across his reticle.

The BVSS action became the basis for my 300M match rifle.

According to the Hodgdon website, Bruce Hodgdon named H-380 because the charge weight 38.0 was optimal in his 22-250, with a 52 gr. bullet. Turns out - he was right.

When I used H380 with the 52 gr Sierra I used about 40 gr of powder. I quit using H380 the first year in the fall. The POI just kept changing as temps changed. Switched to Varget and never had any problems again.

At 35.5 gr I'm believe you're moving those bullets at .223 velocities.
