22-250 projectiles

Gday shooters, I just purchased a new rifle it’s a tikka t3x varmint hunter in stainless in 22-250 rem. I reload all my own ammunition so I’m wondering what are your best suggestions for 55gr varmint projectiles in 22-250 ? When I say for varmint i want the most explosive devastating bullet you know of. It will be hunting rabbits, foxes, the occasional boar, feral dogs and cats. Look forward to hearing your experiences and recommendations on bullets for my new calibre cheers

I've used the 55 grain bullets the most in my 22-250s and 220 Swifts. It seems that they do more damage than the light weights (unless you are talking prairie dogs, which you probably don't have in Australia).
Had great accuracy and explosiveness from the 55 Ballistic tips, Vmaxs, and any of the 55 grain Sierras. The plain old Sierra soft points (flat base or boat tail) are underrated, and their performance is as good as the plastic tipped bullets in my experience.
Never had any trouble getting the 55 grain bullets to stabilize or shoot with varmint accuracy from a 14 twist.
I would suspect that your Tikka will shoot well like most Tikkas do. Depending on what powders that are available to you, I'd try VarGet, IMR 4064, WW760 or similar.

Dont know much about 55gr, but Hornady's #2240 50SX or Sierra's #1340 50 Blitz have always worked well for me at full speed.

You will probably need to load for the boar/dogs, Sierra 1365, 55 gr sp. If you have a 1/8 twist more options for bullets(weights/styles) are available.

Tikka makes fast and slow twist versions of the 22-250, so what you run kinda depends. The Varmint hunter is offered in both 1:8 and 1:14.

When you say "explosive devasting bullet" I think extreme rapid expansion, is that what you're looking for?

If it is the Sierra 55gr Blitzking is a very explosive bullet and they always seem to shoot well too.

Drop two grains and shoot the 53 gr. Hornady V-Max. Great precision and they pack a wallop.

And if Rowan's Tikka is the 8tw version I'd completely agree but if it's the 14tw version then those 53 Vmax may not be the best choice. Some people claim their 14tw 22-250's will shoot those 53's but more often then not they don't shoot very well in barrels with the slow 14tw. Also, I'm not sure the 53 Vmax is quite as explosive as the Blitzking.

Thanks for the tips so far gents I’ll try both sierra blitz and VMAX at 55gr from the 1:14 and see how they fly
