22-250, please school me

I do have a nice Vortex Viper to put on it! and 8 pounds of Win 760
Win 760 works great for me. Berger 40 and 55 gr. Hollow pt. Varmint match bullets. .3 with both bullets. All powders mentioned work well. Just have to see what your rifle likes.

Velocity/pressure will be lower with w760, than other more typical 22-250 powders. Will require slightly more powder, and probably run dirtier.

760 is the same as h414 I believe...there's only a few powder companies and they just change label, si I've read...380 and 760 are good powders..I've thought of a new barrel but I hav'nt worn out the factory barrel and it shoots.for longer ranges I have a couple of barrel burners.

My go to for years has been Varget and a 50grn v-max. Great accuracy, great speed and devastating on p-dogs and coyotes. For a time, I ran 40grn v-maxs over a stiff load of Varget. Fantastic accuracy and speed, but I was concerned about wearing out my new barrel to soon. I played with 55grn vmaxs, but I didn't get the accuracy I want. I feel like the ballistic tip 55s are just a bit too long to stabilize in a 1-14 twist. I worked up a good load with the 55grn sierra gk and the sierra 60grn hp. I haven't had a lot of time to mess with those two much more. But I guess the moral of my story is, Varget. I've shot a wheel barrow load of it through two barrels over the years.

I have loaded the Nosler 55 Bt in several 1/14 twist 22-250's(Varget) always found good accuracy, and they are a pretty good fur saver. When replacing barrels I go to a 1/12.

As the coyotefur man says, when rebarreling a 1-14 22 cal varmit gun, put a 1-12 on it. The 1-12 will shoot anything the 14 will and allow you to go to the H 53Vmax or longer tipped 55's as well as some of the 60 + grain bullets. And 4054 is always the first powder I try in a new 22-250 barrel. And it's usually the last. One barrel loved 4350 behind a 60 Vmax(1-12). Always a one holer for 5 shot. Only problem was it was slower than my 222Rem baby Sako! Accuracy usually is my first priority, but the 22-250 only came out after the 223's ran out of range or the wind demanded the 22-250s.

if you are going to re-barrel it put on a 220 swift Hart barrel and have the best
I did that with my m-70 Featherweight and am glad I did
unless you want to shoot heavier bullets stick with a 1-12 or 1-14 twist

I have a mod 70 22-250 as well with the 1:14 - concur on all of the 40-50 gr bullet and power choices ... this thing just shoots the 40's like a laser.

I inherited a Winchester post 64 22-250 varmint, I know the twist isn't enough for the heavier bullets of today so it will get rebarreled soon, BUT when I am shopping for bullets what bullet am I looking for? I know it's a newbie question, but is it a .223 or .224 or some other diameter? TY!
Sierra #1375 60-grain Hollow Point Varmint Bullet is an option. I use it in a 22-250 factory Remington Model 7, it shoots very well.
