22-250 IMP 1-14 powder choice W 40 gr

My brother is coming back with a load of lighter 22 cal bullets. 40 and 45 gr... Could not get the 55 Gr to stabilize...see thread on "main" menu.

He is going to want to try every powder known to man. I figured I could
ease his "pain" by putting him on one or two powders. I have lots of Varget, RL 15, H 4350, and H4831sc on hand.

Any "special" powders for the light 22 cal bullets out there?

VVN140....IMR4064...IMR3031..RE15...take your pick

Of the powders you have on hand I'd go with Varget.

The 2 powders I would try are 8208XBR and CFE223.

I built my 22-250 AI in the 80's same twist.
H414 worked best for me. I got it out this summer after 26 years in the safe and loaded up so H414. Grouped in the 4's

You didn't give many specifics so I punched in a 27" tube and a Hornady 40 gr. V-Max BT with the rest generic. H380 fits real nice, go figure. Wasn't this what it was designed for? ???

22-250, 22-250AI, 220 swift, 220swift AI all came together with IMR4064.

Of the powders you listed the H4350 and H4831sc are too slow to be of use with the lighter bullets. I've tried Varget in the past with a std. 22-250 and the results were ok but, not really great. No experience with RL15 or any of the RL powders for that matter. The best I have ever had out of a 22-250 was with H380! As said before, this powder was meant for the 22-250 and meters well also!

For my rifle I have had good luck with Varget, H4895, Benchmark, H380 and 2700.

Looks like H380 is very popular, along with IMR 4064. I have some of each, just in smaller amounts. Just enough to do a little testing.
