22-250 from 243 brass

Yep. I've made 22-250 from both 243 and 308 brass, mostly to experiment with berdan primed cases. It's a PITA, especially if you don't have a neck ream die and a couple of intermediate dies to get things started. The next problem is reduced powder capacity, especially when using 308 brass.

Save your time and buy 22-250 brass....

robbor: I've been very surprised by the quality of a recent bag of 100 Winchester 22-250 brass: very uniform neck wall thicknesses, .001' to approx. .0015'), flash holes that are centered, and after the first firing, max bullet runout of .003' and that's only with a very few of each box of 20, the majority are .001'/.002'. I also tried reforming from 243, but with all the related problems, why bother?

I was thinking about trying to obtain slightly thicker necks.
Cant you just resize the 243 shells in the 22-250 die? or 243 then 22-250 die? Id really like detailed info on forming or reforming cases.

If you want thicker necks, why not go to the parent case,250 Savage)? Believe me, you'll still have plenty of work to do, but not nearly as much as going to .243. IIRC, the body diameter near the shoulder is considerably larger on the 243/308. When you size that down, the brass has to go somewhere.
