22-250 Etronx

I am a new user to this site, so please bear with me.

When my older brother died, he left me 5,000 Remington 700 Etronx primers. No idea what happened to the rifle. I purchased an Etronx rifle, superb accuracy, but notice if I full length resize brass fired in my other 700 22-250, , the gun does not give me a "ready" light and it will not fire.

Gun came with lots of ammo, too hot for summer, but all of it fires properly. Do I need to set the bullet out further to make some electrical contact???

I am taking the gun to my local gunsmith Monday to check headspace, but I dearly love the accuracy of this gun. Maximum of 1/2" at 100 yd.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks, Don, Utah

Did you try changing the battery. Bullet location has nothing to do with the firing system. The charge takes place at the primer, as long as all other conditions are correct. The firing pin is insulated and closing the bolt completes the circuit. Let me know what your Smith said.

I also have an Etronx and it is superbly accurate. You hit on the same thing I ran into years ago. The cure for me was to use a dummy load to establish the length of the cartridge when it hits the lands. I make my dummy loads from older brass, full sized, and really lube the bullet up before you run it through the seater die. Put it in the rifle, no powder, no primer, and close the bolt. Remove and measure.

Once you have done this, I back off 10/1000" from the length of the dummy cartridge and make a few fully loaded rounds and try them. Mine worked perfectly for me. Hope this helps.

If nothing seems to work, do not get rid of the primers. I just saw 2,500 go for $400 on gunbroker.

I also have 5,000 primers and plan to shoot the rifle until these are used up, then replace the barrel, bolt and trigger - I've heard this can be done to convert the rifle back to a regular 700.

Awesome, you just responded to yourself.

Interesting rifle, never heard of it before this. Anybody else have experience with this or something similar?
