22-250 best bullet??

got a new savage predator in 22-250. believe it has a 1 in 12 twist. what weight bullets shoot best in that rifle with that twist? never had a 22-250 before. also what about ammo manufacturer, remington? hornady? federal? i appreciate any suggestions.

Whatcha gone shoot???

Either way try some 55gr V-max out of it. That is a great all around varmint bullet. It's very soft/fragile. If you don't reload you can get it in the varmint express Hornaday offering. Otherwise try the 55gr gameking loaded by Federal, premium). Great coyote bullet. I hear they have even killed a few deer:eek:

~ a 60gr,non tipped) bullet will max you can stabilize with 1-12

If it's coyotes your after, find something with a 50g Nosler. Haven't bought factory ammo in a long time so I can't help much on brand.

If you're looking for economy, I've read of many folks getting decent accuracy using the 45g Winchester HP's that are in the 40 round boxes.

Best bet is to buy a couple different brands and see which one your rifle likes best. Oh, give that Savage some time to break in too. The barrels can be a bit rough and take some rounds down range to really show what they're capable of. Also, keep on top of the carbon and copper build up...she'll serve you well for a long time.

The Winchesters shoot well for the money. If you are doing a lot of shooting go for them. I handload but if I don't have time I will pick up a box of those.

I have a Savage 22-250 VLP varmint rifle with a 1-12 twist. I hand load everything but I have shot Hornady 40,50,55 and 60 Grain all with good accuracy. The 40s and the 60s really stand out with the hand loads. I have been able to shoot less than one inch at 300yards with the 60s on a good day. Good luck.

I have an LRPV 22-250 with 1 in 12 and I really like the 50gr V-max. This gun shoots everything fairly well but I have had the best luck with the 50's. I have tried the 40 V-max with decent results and the 50 gr varmint grenades from barnes and they do stabilize even though they call for a 1 in 10. I tried some 68gr hpbt and they however did not stabilize. When looking through hornady's bullet selection I decided on the 50 v max because it looked to me like it had the best B.C. to velocity comparison of their bullets up to the 60gr. The 50 v max is loaded in alot of factory shells too. Also, me and my friends have shot alot of the white box winchester 45 hp, mainly shoot them up for the brass, sometimes they shoot great sometimes they don't. They seem to vary from box to box and with temperature change, but for the money they are hard to beat. Remington also has a similar version of the winchesters and we have had the same results with them.
