I just got a new to me/old 788 in 22-250....i plan to shoot mostly 50 or 55 grain bullets.... I would like to get a load using imr 4064 or TAC or exterminator as I have those on hand......
any loads or advice you can share will be appreciated.....

I used 4064 for a friend's Stevens 200 and it is an HONEST half MOA rifle. Quite shocking. By honest I mean I shot that 50 gr v max load several times over the course of several days and it literally held .450 or better each time.... pretty good for $275.

thanks everyone for the replies!! anybody ever use ramshot big game for 50-55's?

My Tikka does best with 34.7 gr of IMR4320 shooting Nosler 55 gr Varmegeddon. I've done 3/4" groups at 200 yds numerous times. Longest groundhog kill was 453 yds.

H380's the ticket in my rifle with the lighter bullets. It's a bit of a pain developing a hot weather load and a cold weather load, but H380 delivers the goods.

I run 38-39 grains of Reloader 17 and 55gr bullets and have had great results. Some claim that Reloader 17 is heat sensitive but I've had no issues.

I like the 4064, but I have yet to find a standard powder that my 22-250 does not like. Varget and IMR4895 work great with 55-grain Hornady SP, in my rifle. I have others to test, such as Re15, but it does not appear that the results will vary much. If you are a velocity monster, then try some CFE223. It appears to be real good, but I have not personally shot it yet in the 250. It rocks in a .308, though.

I have loaded several 22-250s with quite a few different powders. One thing they all had in common was they all liked stout loads. And all produced tiny groups. R#15, H414, W760, IMR 4064, Varget all have produced great groups using sierra or nosler bullets.

I use 4064 with 52gr HP about 3800fps, and great accuracy. This is in a stock browning ABolt with the tunable boss brake. 4064 is by far the most used and versatile powder in my cabinet.
