22-250 AI & 70 gr Bergers

Anybody got a favorite load for the 22-250 AI with the 70gr VLD or the 69gr SMK.
I have a friend here that's getting a new rifle and he wants some load data.

Sierra says their accuracy load is IMR 4350 38.0 69 grain matchking. You must start lower and work up. I hope your friend has a 1 in 10 twist for this bullet. If not you are stuck with the 40-55 grain bullets. The latest sierra book #5 has plenty of imfo on this wildcat.

It's a 9 twist.
I showed him my Sierra 5th edition book and he ordered one for himself last week but that doesn't always jive with what's already working across the country.
The problem I saw with the recommended load (IMR4350) was the velocity is not much more than the standard 22-250 where as Re-19 can bring out the true velocity potential of the cartridge.
I shot the 70gr Bergers with H4831 in a 220 Swift for years and with the 22-250 AI being so close in capacity I would think it would be a good choice but I 'd like to here it from someone else before the guy starts spending money on powder.

Jay,
I haven't pulled my 22-250 AI out of the safe in a couple of years and I am not in my loading room but I remember I was using a stout load of IMR-4350, mine was a heavier charge than Sierra recommends but don't recall what it is with out looking, also I remember I had good luck with H-4350 and H-4831SC as a matter of a facct just about every thing shot well in it, but 4350 was the best. I never tried RL-19 but have had good luck with there whole line of powders, I use about 16lbs of RL-22 ea.year and after I get my first .300 Cutright I'll probably even burn more ;D With your experience I wont bother mentioning about work up. Are you just about ready for Williamsport ? Things start happening in a couple of weeks don't they? Best of luck to you this year I will be keeping a eye on the rosters ;)
Wayne.

I don't know if I will make it to Williamsport this year, I would like to shoot the "World Open" again.
I used some RE22 in the 300 during the early tests and found it to be as good as the H4831 I've been using and it was cleaner burning too. I had so much H4831 that I had to use it.
BTW:I named the cartridge the 300 AIRBORNE.
Thanks...Jay

Shooting a 77 gr. Berger at 3102fps out of a 26" 1-8 Broughton AI on a 40X action. SUPER nice groups. 39.0 grains of Reloader 22

Just wish I clould find a prairie dog to shoot with it.

IMR4007SSC shines in my 22-250 AI with the 69 SMK. Really fast.... 3600 fps if I remember right. I will look up numbers tonight when I make it home.... Tim

Ok, I looked. 39.5 gr of IMR4007SSC with 69 SMK and Fed210M in Winny brass yielded 3570 fps in my gun (28" 1:8 twist). Sub-1" groups at 300 yds with a 15-25 mph crosswind. I haven't had this barrel back on since those groups, but it appeared to be a winning combination. I screwed on my first 6BR barrel and haven't looked back since. However, I think this would be a dandy coyote load. I also tried IMR4831 and got similar velocities but much poorer groups at 300 yds.

Luck, Tim

Mines a 23" 8 twist. Run the 75 A-Max at a hair over 3500 and the 75 VLD's at just over 3400, H-4350 for either has worked the best.

With the Ackley speeds, I think he could step up to the 75 class in a 9 twist.
