22-243 starting loads?

Hi all I just signed up. I was told to come over hear for what I'm loooking for. Now I have seen what some of you are shooting for loads, but I was wondering were I should start? I was having some pressure issues starting before I was using 223 wssm data. But I think I got it figured out I was using lapua brass and my chamber is to small for the lapua brass. Is that a good starting point or just start at top end 22-250 data? I'm thinking I'm going to use h4831 and 75g amaxes. What kind of velocity should i be seeing. I would appreciate any help thanks.

I personally run the 75gr amax out of a 1-8 twist and have had great results. I have pushed them to 3600fps but accuracy went away and was hard on brass with very little ballistic advantage. I found 3500fps to be what my gun likes. As far as loads I use 75gr .243 data. Start low and work up, never had a problem. 22/250ai data works as a starting point also

This might not help but I ran the #'s in Quickload and....

22-243
2.65" coal
75 gr A-max
H-4831

41 gr = 51,000 psi = 3,140 fps 26" bbl.... 3,250 fps 30" bbl.

43 gr = 60,000 psi = 3,300 fps 26" bbl.... 3,410 fps 30" bbl.

44 gr = 65,000 psi = 3,375 fps 26" bbl.... 3,485 fps 30" bbl.

..... In theory

I know in theory lots of people are supposedly running these high velocitys but quickload shows they should be a lot slower. Guess I work up and see were I end up and keep an eye on brass and primers and obviously bolt lift too.

Start at 40 and work up slowly(.2-.3 grains at a time) thru the lower to mid 40s. At 40 grains you'll get roughly 3000 fps. Guessing you'll see optimal results around 40.5-42.0 At that point seating depth may come into play so adjusting may be necessary. Pushing a 75/80 Amax to 3400-3500 isn't difficult but getting good accuracy at those speeds is not likely.

My be my guns unique but it will shoot sub 1/2" groups all day with 75gr amax at 3500fps. While it doesn't shoot like my ppc it isn't intended to, it's a hunting rifle. I'll take 1/2" all day hunting

Great info here! Call the hornady tec and see if he will help, I am sure he will. Stock up on Winchester brass, while the bean counters are still allowing them to make it for the public(unlike Remington).

H4831 can sure respond to primer changes as it is very slow burning. I would sure go with a cci 250, Fed 215, or Win mag primer for the sub zero weather you often hunt in.

One of the Enduron powders may sure hit a home run for you, one can would tell you everything if you are not delighted with H4831. With a 900-1200 round barrel life, it helps to glean as much information from others as you can get from others before you start shooting.

I too recommend Winchester brass over any other. It's proven to me that it takes pressure much better than other brass and lasts practically forever if annealed once in a while.
