22-243 standard?

Well bought a started project.
22-243 standard
Any load info out there?
Starting with a 1in12 but have a couple of 1-9's siting
Who reams dies if I wish to go middlestead?
Needed this like another hole but gonna use it for a laugh
or 2 in the dog fields.
Any info or links is appreciated ???

My experience wasn't good with this caliber. Burned up a barrel in nothing flat say less than 800 rds. It was a 1 in 10 twist and wasn't anything exceptional in accuracy averaging .5 with 5 shot groups. I couldn't go too long without cleaning. I hope you have better luck. When the barrel was replaced I went to the 22-250 and sold all my dies and junk specifically associated with that round and I won't own another. Hopefully, you'll hear from shooters who really love it.

The .22-.243 shines best as an 80g. launcher. If you're gonna' shoot lighter bullets the .22-.250 is the way to go, IMHO. RL-22 seems to be the powder of choice for the 80g.ers.

I have no problem with 800rds as long as they scream.
I'll worry about barrel life with my match guns and
and big cash rigs ;D

They make more bbls.

I had a 22-243 Middlested. Redding makes a standard full length die for it and the smith reamed out a Wilson inline bullet seating die with the finish reamer for the bullet seating chores.

It's a screamer for sure. Mine shot 55's at 4100 and 40's at 4600, but had a 14 twist. I agree, build it on an 8 twist for the heavys and save the lightweights for 22-250's.

The started project come with a 1-12".
I have a pair of 1-9" tubes sitting un-used.
A whole pile of 69,70,75 and 77 grainers.
Enough 60hp's to cook the 1-12 this summer
and will go the faster twist route there after.
Going to try to stay with the standard shoulder
but if that does not work out I will be looking
at blowing it out.

Wouldn't a standard .243 win Redding type-s full length resizer with a proper bushing for the .22 work.

I think this is the way they go with the 20 Practical. (.223 necked down to .204)

Project came with a full length type S and bushing.
Redding comp seater .220 swift reamed by Mike Bryant to .22-243
Wilson seater not sure on what this was reamed from.
I'm going to cerrosafe everything and compare.
Thinking my .243 bump die will work on it.
I will try my Wilson .243 nk die with bushing also.
I have a lot of stuff for the 08 based cases and have
shot them for many years in many factory forms and tight necks.

If you're set on having a 22-243, my advise to you would be to contact Mike Bryant in Texas about em. As far as my circles go he has made more of em than anyone I know. I had one he made and as the previous post noted it shot great, but it sure didn't last long barrel wise. Maybe 600 rounds worth. No problem getting 4200fps out of a 52gr bullet.

Ya gotta be real careful on your load selection, as I've seen load development at 65-75* that when shot at 85-90* result is near impossible bolt lift and pierced primers.

If it was me...... I'd jump on the 22xc long before I went the 22-243 route again. Just my experience with the two for what it is worth. ;D WD

Wanna sell me a 1/9 barrel :D? Buddy of mine has the middlestead and loves it for varmints (especially coyotes which he doesn't have to lead unless they are very far away lol) makes paste out of pdogs and hates barrels.

I dont want to hijack your thread but I was just laughing at the thought of hunting with that round.;D I played around with some 22 cal sabots in a 300 SAUM and let me tell you what :o :o Man that was fun. I had a 40 v-max at over 5000 FPS. I had a 35 grain v-max at 5180FPS. I'd love to hit a yote or groundhog with that load!

Dan

It's my understanding Mike did the comp seater that's coming.
Nope - Keeping the 1/9's.
I'm waiting to here on some reamer specs and am going to buy
my own reamer.

That paste stuff is what I'm after ;D
