MSR -

Howdy, again !

I'm a bit suprised by the lack of replies to your post ?

For what it's worth....

I shot a wildcat .35 Remington necked-down to .224" cal for over 25 yr. It's case capacity would be some 2gr or so < a notional .22-243.

In a 24" 1-14 SS barrel, my best powders (under 55s ) were WW760, and VV160. IMR4350 did pretty well, too. These powders gave me the high load densities I sought, along with great performance.

Now, shootin' .22-35 in a 28" 1-8 SS barrel ; my best accuracy load ( w/ good vel ) was 40.5gr AA3100 and Fed LR Match; under Hornady 75"A"-Max

What this seems to indicate is that your 26" 1-9 .22-243 would likewise benefit for powders in this burn rate range ( your slightly shorter barrel making a case for powders on the faster end of this burn rate range ). I don't think you'd be shooting bullets heavier than 80gr. Heaviest bullets per calibre, can tend to bias powder choices more to the slower burn rate end of the spectrum.

I had no great success trying VV560 in either barrel. Kaltron-Pettibone says that the VV500 series of powders works best with the heaviest bullets in a particular calibre, with most tests they quoted being from .308Win load work.

With the powders I mentioned, I whole-heartedly recommend you try FED LR Magnum Match primers
( and other Mag primers ) as these powders reacted favorably to being matched w/ MAG primers.

With regards,
357Mag
